Our client is seeking an experienced and analytical Mine Planner to join their team in the Northern Cape. The successful candidate will be responsible for mine planning, scheduling, pit design, optimisation and supporting effective production planning within an open pit mining environment.
MINE PLANNER
Griekwastad / Postmasburg area, Northern Cape
Requirements:
- Degree or Diploma in Mining / Planning / Survey stream.
- Mine Overseer Certificate of Competency will be advantageous.
- Blasting Certificate will be advantageous.
- Additional mine planning or scheduling certifications, such as Deswik, Surpac or MineSched, will be advantageous.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mine planning within an open pit mining environment.
- Proven experience in short-term, medium-term and long-term mine planning.
- Experience in scheduling, pit design and optimisation.
- Exposure to drill and blast design and production planning.
- Experience working with geological and survey data.
- Knowledge of mining software, including Deswik, Surpac, MineSched or similar.
- Valid B / EB Driver’s Licence.
- Computer literate in MS Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and maintain short-term, medium-term and long-term mine plans.
- Assist with mine scheduling, pit design and optimisation.
- Support production planning within an open pit mining environment.
- Use geological and survey data to develop accurate and practical mine plans.
- Assist with drill and blast planning and design where required.
- Monitor mining progress against approved plans and schedules.
- Use mine planning software such as Deswik, Surpac, MineSched or similar for planning and reporting.
- Prepare accurate reports, plans and schedules for management review.
- Work closely with geology, survey, production and operational teams to support effective planning and decision-making.
- Identify planning risks, constraints and opportunities for improvement.
- Ensure planning activities support safe, efficient and cost-effective mining operations.
