Description:

THE JOB AT A GLANCE

As the Prevention Lead: Mining, your role is to lead the development of the prevention strategy for the Mining sector, aligned to the overarching prevention framework set by the Head of Prevention. Your role drives measurable reductions in workplace injuries, fatalities and occupational diseases by translating strategy into targeted, data-driven interventions, influencing client behaviour, and strengthening safety capability across the mining portfolio.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Strategic Alignment & Execution

  • Translate and implement the overarching prevention strategy into a Mining-specific execution roadmap

  • Provide sector insights and recommendations to the Head of Prevention to inform strategy refinement

  • Identify emerging risks and proactively adjust interventions.

Client & Industry Influence

  • Act as a trusted advisor to mining clients, including executives and operational leaders

  • Influence safety culture, leadership behaviours, and operational practices

  • Represent RMA in industry forums, mining bodies, and regulatory engagements (as delegated)

  • Drive behavioural and operational change in client organisations through influence rather than authority

  • Support the Head of Prevention in industry engagement and positioning

  • Work with specialists to ensure the holistic delivery of Prevention both internally and externally.

Operational Delivery

  • Oversee implementation of prevention programmes across the Mining portfolio

  • Ensure alignment and integration with claims, underwriting, and client management teams

  • Drive consistency, quality, and scalability of interventions

  • Execute the implementation of the prevention programme across the Mining portfolio

  • Creation of policy development, risk management, compliance and reporting, and culture and training practices at a client level

  • Manage and coordinate the successful delivery of end to end client activities

  • Develop, review, refine, and monitor the effectiveness of the interventions at a client level

  • Develop reports for clients and internal and external executives.

Data, Insights & Reporting

  • Leverage claims and risk data to identify high-risk mines and trends

  • Analyse claims and risk data to develop proactive prevention related interventions

  • Analyse the data that emerges from the client activities to inform proactive interventions

  • Use predictive insights to prioritise interventions

  • Deliver regular, insight-driven reporting to the Head of Prevention.

Contribution to Organisational Outcomes

  • Support improved portfolio performance (loss ratios, claims reduction)

  • Contribute to client retention and value enhancement

  • Strengthen RMA’s position as a leader in mining safety and prevention

  • Feed learnings into broader prevention practices across sectors.

WHAT YOU WILL GET IN RETURN

We offer great opportunities for personal and professional development in a stable company that is 132 years strong. The role comes with a competitive salary package and various benefits. Furthermore, you will be part of a dedicated group of colleagues who value teamwork and collaboration.

Turnaround time

The shortlisting process will only start once the advert due date has been reached. The time taken to complete this process will depend on how far you progress within the recruitment process and the availability of our managers. Kindly note that should you not receive a response within 21 days, please consider your application unsuccessful.

Closing date: 8th June 2026

Our Commitment to transformation:

In accordance with the employment equity plan of Rand Mutual Assurance and its employment equity goals and targets, preference may be given, but is not limited, to candidates from under-represented designated groups.

Requirements:
