THE JOB AT A GLANCE



The Head: Learning and Development (L&D) provides enterprise-wide strategic leadership of RMA’s learning architecture to ensure organisational capability, leadership depth and workforce sustainability in support of business strategy.



The role leads the development, implementation and governance of the full Learning and Development strategy, ensuring that talent development initiatives are aligned to workforce planning, organisational growth and long-term strategic priorities.


This is a strategic leadership role. It is fundamental in embedding a culture of continuous learning, enabling performance excellence and strengthening leadership pipelines across the organisation.



The role ensures that RMA employees are equipped with the skills, capabilities and future-focused competencies required to meet current operational demands and evolving business needs. It governs leadership development, succession planning, skills development compliance and strategic learning partnerships, ensuring that learning investment translates into measurable organisational impact.



The Head – L&D shapes organisational capability, strengthens leadership depth and ensures workforce readiness aligned to RMA’s long-term strategic direction.




WHAT YOU WILL DO



Strategic Learning & Development Leadership



  • Develop and lead the execution of the enterprise L&D strategy aligned to RMA’s business objectives

  • Implement a learning framework that supports leadership development, skills enhancement and talent mobility

  • Govern learning policies, systems and standards to ensure strategic alignment and business relevance

  • Provide strategic reporting and insight on learning effectiveness and growth capability.


Team Leadership & Capability Development



  • Lead the L&D leadership team comprising the L&D Manager, Leadership Development Manager, Learning Management Partnerships Manager and Skills Development Specialist

  • Drive performance, succession planning and structured development within the L&D function

  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement and accountability within the team

  • Align team delivery to enterprise People and Brand priorities.


Learning Content Design & Delivery



  • Oversee the design, development and delivery of high-quality learning content across the organization

  • Ensure programmes are current, relevant and aligned to business capability requirements Leverage digital platforms and Learning Management Systems to optimise accessibility and impact

  • Monitor learning outcomes and embed continuous improvement mechanisms.


Leadership Development & Talent Mobility



  • Govern leadership development programmes to strengthen RMA’s succession pipeline

  • Embed structured talent mobility and career progression pathways

  • Align leadership frameworks to future skills and digital capability requirements

  • Partner with HRBPs and business leaders to ensure capability depth across critical roles.


Compliance, Reporting & Strategic Partnerships



  • Ensure full compliance with SETA reporting requirements including WSP, ATR and Pivotal submissions

  • Manage skills development frameworks in line with regulatory and governance standards

  • Engage senior leadership to align learning priorities to organisational objectives

  • Establish and manage strategic learning partnerships to enhance capability outcomes.

Requirements:

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TABLE



  • Degree (NQF Level 7) in Human Resources, Education or related field

  • Postgraduate qualification (NQF Level 8) advantageous

  • 8–10 years Learning and Development experience, including leadership development and organisational learning strategy

  • Proven experience leading and developing a diverse L&D team

  • Demonstrated track record in designing and implementing learning strategies that drive measurable organisational impact

  • Learning and development methodologies and instructional design

  • Leadership development frameworks and succession planning

  • Regulatory compliance and SETA reporting standards

  • Learning Management Systems and digital learning platforms

  • Data-driven learning analytics and reporting

  • Strategic stakeholder engagement and executive influence
