Namib Poultry (Pty) Ltd is a fully integrated broiler production operation established in 2012 and situated 30 km north of Windhoek on the A1 Highway on the farm Klein Okapuka. PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

To manage and optimise broiler production operations by ensuring effective implementation of biosecurity, animal welfare, and production best practices. The role focuses on achieving production targets, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring efficient use of resources while overseeing operational, financial, and staff performance within the unit.                                                                                                                 

KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Operational Management
  • Oversee the day-to-day management of broiler production units to ensure optimal productivity and efficiency.
  • Coordinate and supervise all farming activities in line with production targets and company standards.
  • Monitor flock performance and implement corrective actions where necessary.
  1. Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) & Biosecurity
  • Develop, implement, and continuously review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all production processes.
  • Design, enforce, and maintain strict biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks and ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Conduct regular audits and training to ensure adherence to SOPs and biosecurity
  1. Environmental Control (Ventilation, Heating & Lighting)
  • Plan, implement, and manage ventilation systems to maintain optimal air quality and temperature.
  • Oversee heating and lighting programs in accordance with bird age, breed requirements, and environmental conditions.
  • Monitor environmental parameters and adjust systems to ensure bird comfort and performance.
  1. Nutrition & Feed Management
  • Develop and implement feed programs aligned with breed standards and production goals.
  • Monitor feed intake, conversion ratios, and overall flock performance.
  • Coordinate and manage the procurement of feed to ensure continuous supply and cost efficiency. Nutrition & Feed Management
  1. Maintenance & Infrastructure
  • Plan and execute routine and preventative maintenance for chicken houses and farm infrastructure.
  • Ensure all equipment, housing, and facilities are maintained in good working condition.
  • Coordinate repairs and upgrades as required to minimize downtime and production losses.
  1. Production Planning & Performance Management
  • Plan and balance broiler production cycles in accordance with breed standards and market requirements.
  • Analyse production data and implement strategies to improve efficiency, growth rates, and yield.
  • Ensure alignment between production output and business objectives.
  1. Animal Health & Welfare
  • Oversee chicken house preparation, cleaning, and disinfection between production cycles.
  • Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards and best practices.
  • Plan and supervise vaccination programs and general flock health management.
  1. Procurement & Inventory Management
  • Manage the procurement of farming consumables, equipment, and materials.
  • Conduct regular stock counts and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Compile and submit inventory and usage reports.
  1. Financial Management
  • Compile and manage operational budgets for broiler production units.
  • Monitor expenses and implement cost-control measures to ensure financial efficiency.
  • Report on budget performance and variances.
  1. Human Resources Management
  • Perform HR-related functions including recruitment, onboarding, and staff appointments.
  • Manage employee performance, discipline, and training initiatives.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels and promote a productive work environment.
  1. Reporting & Administration
  • Compile regular operational, production, and stock reports.
  • Maintain accurate records of farm activities, performance, and compliance.
  1. Ad Hoc Responsibilities
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by management from time to time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE  

  • Grade 12 (NQF 4).   
  • A tertiary qualification in agriculture will be an added advantage.                                                                      
  • Five (5) years of experience in managing broiler farms.
  • Five (5) years of experience in environmentally controlled broiler houses and relevant experience within the industry.
  • Proficiency in English, being bilingual will be highly advantageous.
  • Willing and able to work alternating shifts /overtime, alternating weekends, and on Public Holidays as and when required.
  • High level of computer literacy with advanced mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
