Purpose of the PositionThe Boutique and Gallery Sales Assistant is responsible for assisting guests and customers with purchases in the hotel boutique or art gallery. The role focuses on delivering excellent customer service, promoting products and artwork, maintaining attractive displays, and supporting sales operations within the hospitality environment. Key ResponsibilitiesCustomer ServiceWelcome and assist guests and customers in the boutique or gallery.Provide information about products, souvenirs, clothing, jewellery, artwork, and local crafts.Recommend products based on customer needs and preferences.Handle customer enquiries and complaints professionally.Sales and Cash HandlingProcess sales transactions accurately.Operate point-of-sale (POS) systems and card machines.Handle cash, receipts, and daily sales records.Assist in achieving sales targets.Stock and Display ManagementMonitor stock levels and assist with stocktaking.Replenish shelves and displays when needed.Maintain clean, attractive, and organised displays.Assist with pricing and labelling of products.Gallery SupportProvide information about artists and artworks displayed in the gallery.Assist with gallery events and exhibitions.Ensure artwork is handled carefully and displayed correctly.AdministrationMaintain sales and inventory records.Assist with ordering and receiving stock.Prepare reports when required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Grade 12 / Matric certificate.
• Certificate or Diploma in Retail, Tourism, Hospitality, Art, or Sales is advantageous.

 
Experience

• 1–2 years’ experience in retail sales, hospitality, or customer service.
• Experience in boutique, gallery, hotel, or luxury retail environments preferred.

 
Knowledge

• Customer service principles.
• Basic sales and merchandising techniques.
• Cash handling and POS systems.
• Knowledge of art, crafts, or luxury products is advantageous.
