Role Overview
The Revit 3D Rebar Modeller is responsible for transforming structural design intent into fully coordinated data-rich 3D reinforcement models. This role moves beyond basic drafting to focus on BIM-led rebar detailing, ensuring that reinforcement is not only compliant with codes but also physically buildable and optimized for site installation. You will play a critical role in reducing site waste and resolving spatial conflicts within the digital environment.
Key Responsibilities
· 3D Reinforcement Modelling: Develop highly accurate 3D rebar models within Autodesk Revit, ensuring full coordination with structural elements, MEP services, and cast-in items.
· Automated Scheduling: Generate precise rebar bending schedules (BBS) and 2D documentation directly from the 3D Revit® model to ensure "single source of truth" data.
· Clash Detection & Avoidance: Use Revit and Navisworks to identify and resolve reinforcement congestion and clashes before the fabrication stage.
· Technical Compliance: Interpret engineering specifications and design intent to produce layouts that strictly adhere to SANS 282 and other relevant structural codes.
· Quantity Management: Perform detailed material take-offs and estimated steel quantities to support procurement and commercial teams.
· BIM Workflow Integration: Support the BIM Manager in maintaining Revit® families, templates, and reinforcement settings to align with the project’s BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
· Quality Assurance: Conduct internal audits of models and schedules to ensure 100% accuracy in bar marks, lengths, and diameters.
Required Skills
- Autodesk 360: 2 to 3 years
- Bim: 2 to 3 years
- Revit 3D Rebar: 1 to 2 years
Candidate Requirements
Qualifications and Experience
· Candidates should ideally hold a Degree or Technical Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or an equivalent qualification in the Built Environment (Grade 12 with significant experience will be considered).
· 2–5 years of experience. Essential skills include proficiency in Autodesk Revit (Structure), 3D modelling, reinforcement detailing, and knowledge of SANS 282 rebar codes.
Technical Requirements
· Autodesk Revit: Expert proficiency in Reinforcement tools.
· AutoCAD: Strong foundational CAD skills.
· Revit Add-ins: Experience with tools such as Naviate, Graitec, or Sofistik is highly advantageous.
· Scheduling Software: Proficiency in Probar 2D, Padds, or similar systems.
Core Competencies
· Spatial Visualization: Ability to visualize complex 3D reinforcement cages and identify potential congestion in heavy structural elements.
· Precision & Accuracy: An uncompromising eye for detail, particularly regarding bar spacing, cover requirements, and lap lengths.
· Time Management: Ability to manage high-volume detailing workloads while adhering to strict project milestones and "Issue for Construction" (IFC) dates.
· Collaborative Mindset: Proactive communication skills to liaise with Structural Engineers regarding design changes or buildability issues found during modelling.
· Documentation Excellence: Skilled in cross-disciplinary document coordination and revision management, utilizing cloud-based platforms to ensure all construction documentation is accurate, clash-free, and updated in real-time.
Technical Focus Area: SANS 282 Compliance
The successful candidate must demonstrate a mastery of the Standard System for the Scheduling and Bending of Reinforcing Steel (SANS 282), ensuring that every 3D model element translates
