Senior Construction Manager: Mega Infrastructure Project (Richards Bay)
This is a high-impact, on-site contract role for 36 months (3 years) for an elite Construction Manager based in Richards Bay. You will provide critical capacity and capability support to the Governance, Compliance, and Assurance (GC&A) Operating Unit, focusing on high-level assurance reviews and technical construction oversight within a mega-infrastructure environment.
This position is designed for a veteran professional who possesses the gravitas to operate at an executive level, providing direct oversight to C-suite stakeholders and Board committees.
Key Responsibilities

Assurance Reviews: Conduct proactive project assurance reviews and rigorous compliance checks in accordance with corporate policies and defined Process Control Manuals (PCMs).

Control Evaluation: Critically evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of control arrangements, including execution release approvals and complex extensions of time or cost.

Project Readiness: Lead Project Definition Readiness Assessments (PDRA) and calibrate project methodology against global best practices and internal governance models.

Technical & Engineering Oversight: Lead comprehensive constructability reviews and oversee the management and approval processes for intricate technical, cost, time, and contract modifications.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance: Enforce strict adherence to Health and Safety specifications, environmental legal requirements, and international regulatory standards.

Strategic Reporting: Verify project data integrity to compile high-level executive reports using the CARAT principle (Clarity, Accuracy, Relevance, Adequacy, and Timeliness).

To be considered for this prestigious role, candidates must meet the following stringent criteria:

Education: A relevant undergraduate qualification (NQF Level 7) in Engineering is mandatory as well as Construction Management qualification.

Professional Certification: Must be a Certified/Professional Mechanical Engineer (Pr.Eng with ECSA or equivalent body).

Seniority & Experience: As an executive-level resource, a minimum of 25+ years of industry-related experience is required.

Industry Expertise: Extensive track record in project construction management within global-scale mega-projects.

Sector Knowledge: Proven experience within the utilities or infatructure, sectors, involving mega scale infrastructure projects (e.g.,Mining , Coal, Nuclear, Renewables, or Transmission technologies).

Work Environment: This role is based full-time in Richards Bay. Candidates must be willing to relocate or travel as required by the project’s 3-year timeline.
Technical Skills
- Asset Creation: Mastery of Mega Asset Creation and Capital Investment delivery environments.
- Project Life Cycle: Deep knowledge of Industry Project Life Cycle Models (PLCM) and Frameworks.
- Software Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft® Excel (complex modeling), Word, and PowerPoint.
- Governance: Expert-level understanding of project compliance, multi-layered governance requirements, and enterprise risk management.
Soft Skills
- Leadership: Exceptional business acumen with a history of leading multi-disciplinary teams through complex change.
