An established, reputable company in the Kempton Park area requires a Financial Accountant
Formal schooling / degree:
· BCom Accounting or equivalent
· Professional registration - PA(SA) with SAIPA, CIMA, AGA or similar
Experience:
· Post articles commerce experience in a manufacturing or consumer goods business environment would be advantageous.
· Proven track record of implementing and improving systems of internal control and financial accounting.
Computer systems: The candidate must be proficient in Excel (completely understand and able to use VLOOKUP, XLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, SUMIF, etc. formulas).
Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (Old Microsoft Navision or NAV)
Candidate Requirements
MAIN TASKS / RESPONSIBILITIES
· Financial Accounting & Reporting
· Prepare accurate monthly trial balances and management accounts for review
· Perform detailed variance analysis and provide meaningful commentary to management
· Ensure the integrity of all balance sheet accounts through regular reconciliations
· Maintain compliance with IFRS and relevant statutory requirements
· Ensure all month‑end and reporting deadlines are met in accordance with the approved reporting timetable.
Month‑End Close Management
· Coordinate and oversee the month‑end close process, including but not limited to:
· Debtors
· Creditors
· Bank reconciliations
· Inventory and GRNI
· Fixed assets (capitalisation and depreciation)
· General ledger
· Submit completed trial balances and supporting schedules to the Financial Manager for review within agreed timelines.
· Finance Team Oversight
· Provide day‑to‑day work coordination, technical guidance and review support to: Bookkeeper & Accounts Payable
Credit Controller / Debtors
· Review work output for accuracy, completeness and compliance
· Support the Financial Manager in developing finance staff capabilities through mentoring, coaching and process improvement
· Assist the Financial Manager with performance feedback, training needs and workload planning
Reception, Business Support & Customer Services Oversight
· Oversee the day‑to‑day functioning of the Reception and Business Support / Customer Services role
· Ensure that Sales Return Order (SRO) requests from customers are handled timeously and customers stay informed throughout the process till finalized.
Budgeting, Forecasting & Management Support
· Assist with the preparation of annual budgets and monthly forecasts
· Prepare monthly actual‑versus‑budget analysis
· Support cost control and expense management initiatives
· Provide financial analysis to support business decisions
Cash Flow, Banking & Payments
· Prepare accurate weekly cash flow forecasts
· Monitor working capital (debtors, creditors, inventory)
· Prepare payment batches and supporting documentation for approval
· Assist with debtor finance submissions and bank reporting requirements
· Liaise with banks and stakeholders as required under Financial Manager direction
· All payment releases and bank profile changes remain subject to the approved Delegation of Authority framework.
Compliance, Tax & Audit
· Prepare VAT, PAYE and other statutory returns for review and submission
· Ensure compliance with all relevant tax and statutory regulations
· Compile audit files and supporting documentation for external audits
· Resolve audit queries and implement agreed audit recommendations
Policies, Procedures & Governance
· Assist with drafting, maintaining and enforcing financial policies and procedures
· Support internal control design and process documentation
· Ensure adherence to approved authority limits and governance standards
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS
· Accurate Cash-Flow forecasting
· Accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting
· Quality of balance sheet reconciliations
· Audit outcomes and compliance
· Budget and forecast accuracy
· Debtors performance linked to customer service effectiveness
· Quality and responsiveness of finance‑related customer support
KNOWLEDGE
· Sound understanding of financial accounting principles and practices
· Working knowledge of IFRS and relevant South African legislation
· Understanding of VAT, PAYE, corporate tax and statutory reporting requirements
· Knowledge of SME financial processes and internal control environments
· Practical understanding of budgeting, forecasting and management reporting
· Practical knowledge of financial systems and advanced spreadsheet‑based reporting and analysis tools
· Awareness of customer service processes and the financial impact of customer interactions
· Knowledge of business administration and support functions in a medium‑sized organisation
· Corporate governance, ethics and professional conduct
SKILL
· Advanced Microsoft Excel and spreadsheet capability, including complex formulas, pivot tables, reconciliations and financial reporting models.
· Strong financial accounting and reconciliation skills
· Analytical and problem‑solving ability with attention to detail
· Ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities under pressure
· Strong organisational and planning skills
· Ability to review, interpret and present financial information clearly
· Process‑driven with continuous improvement mindset
· Ability to coordinate and oversee transactional and support staff effectively
· Sound judgement in handling financially sensitive customer and operational matters
