THE JOB AT A GLANCE
The Corporate Social Initiative Manager is responsible for defining, governing, and executing RMA’s CSI strategy. The role ensures that all initiatives deliver measurable social impact aligned to RMA’s purpose as a social insurer, including COIDA recovery and rehabilitation, disability inclusion, community resilience, youth employability, and education. The Manager oversees the full CSI portfolio, including programme design, partnerships, monitoring & evaluation, budgeting, risk management, and ethical storytelling. The role also ensures B BBEE SED (Broad‑Based Black Economic Empowerment – Socio‑Economic Development) compliance and leverages INSETA (Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority) partnerships, such as co funding for education, employability, and aligned PIVOTAL programmes.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Strategy, Policy & Governance
- Develop a 3–5 year CSI Strategy aligned to RMA and ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) priorities
- Maintain CSI policy, eligibility criteria, due diligence, and steering committee governance
- Ensure compliance with B BBEE SED, POPIA, Section 18A, tax and audit requirements; protect reputation and ethical standards.
Portfolio Management & INSETA Leverage
- Build a balanced portfolio (flagship programmes, strategic partnerships, employee volunteering, in kind support)
- Prioritise impact areas connected to RMA’s mandate (prevention, rehabilitation, transformation, inclusion, employability, education and community health)
- Where appropriate, align CSI initiatives with INSETA priorities to unlock co funding or jointly report outcomes that complement PIVOTAL and sector skills development goals (without double counting).
Partnerships & People Leadership
- Lead high value partnerships with NPOs/NGOs, rehabilitation centres, disability organisations, universities, SETAs (incl. INSETA), and government
- Manage a small cross functional squad (Brand/Comms, Legal, Risk, Finance).
Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
- Build an M&E (Monitoring & Evaluation) framework (theory of change, indicators, baselines, targets) to track outputs/outcomes/impact
- Maintain evidence packs (beneficiary registers, consents, financial proofs, progress reports)
- Produce EXCO/Board reports and an Annual Impact Report, track leverage ratios and reputational outcomes.
Financial Management
- Own the CSI budget, forecast and disburse on time; optimize cost to impact and co investment
- Ensure transparent procurement, contract management and SLAs
- Ensure ethical, compliant, and auditable financial processes.
Brand, Communications & Risk
- Collaborate with Brand & Comms to amplify authentic, ethical storytelling; secure awards/recognition where appropriate
- Maintain a CSI risk register (strategic/operational/reputational/financial) with mitigations and escalation protocols.
People & Culture Influence
- Drive employee volunteerism to build an internal culture of purpose
- Provide leadership, guidance, and coaching to learners/interns, project officers, or cross-functional contributors involved in CSI
- Promote shared ownership of social impact across the organisation.
STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Development
- Design and implement CSI programmes that promote STEM education, with a focus on preparing youth for future‑ready careers aligned to national development priorities
- Manage STEM-focused bursaries, school partnerships, mentorship programmes, and community learning initiatives to expand access and drive long‑term talent development
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of STEM initiatives, ensuring measurable improvements in participation, skills development, and community upliftment.
Rural Development
- Develop and execute rural development strategies that address socio economic challenges, promote sustainable livelihoods and align with the organisation’s CSI mandate
- Lead community engagement in rural areas, identifying needs, opportunities and partner organisations to implement impactful development projects
- Strengthen partnerships with government, NGOs and local communities to support long term rural resilience and capacity building
- Track and report on rural development project performance, ensuring transparency, accountability and alignment with national developmental priorities.

Requirements:
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TABLE
- Bachelor's in development studies/social sciences/public or development management /business/communications
- Preferred: Postgrad in Social Impact/Monitoring & Evaluation/Project Management/ESG
- 6 to 8+ years in CSI/ESG/Social Impact, with 3+ years leadership
- Experience in insurance/financial services or regulated sectors advantageous
- Demonstrated experience collaborating with INSETA/SETAs, co‑funding arrangements, and sector aligned employability/education initiatives.
Skills & Competencies:
- Strategic Alignment & Portfolio Governance: Ensure RMA’s CSI portfolio is strategically aligned to the organisation’s mandate as a social insurer, supported by a documented Theory of Change (ToC), alignment to COP/ESG frameworks, and SDG (Sustainable Development Goal) prioritisation. Maintain robust governance including policy adherence, committee approvals, and materiality assessments for selection of projects.
- Impact & Outcomes: Implement a robust Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL) framework including impact metrics, baseline setting, beneficiary tracking, and outcome measurement. Ensure programmes demonstrate quantifiable social return, value-add, and alignment to RMA’s Impact Logic Model.
- B‑BBEE SED (Social Economic Development (SED) Compliance & Verification): Ensure full compliance with B‑BBEE Social Economic Development (SED) requirements, including verification evidence, donation flow‑through, beneficiary demographics, and alignment to Code Series 500.
- INSETA Leverage: Maximise CSI impact through SETAs (especially INSETA) by aligning relevant initiatives to sector priorities, enabling co‑funding, co‑reporting, and integration with PIVOTAL frameworks where appropriate.
- Budget Discipline: Ensure sound financial control, transparent procurement, and responsible deployment of funds, including cost‑to‑impact optimisation and adherence to delegation of authority (DoA) and procurement governance.
- Stakeholder & Partner Satisfaction: Build a strong ecosystem of reputable partners across NGOs, government, rehabilitation centres, disability organisations, universities, and SETAs. Maintain stakeholder influence across EXCO and internal leadership.
- Employee Volunteering & & Culture Integration: Enhance organisational culture and employee engagement through structured Employee Volunteering, aligned to the CSI strategy and RMA values.
- Brand & Reputation (Brand, Communication & Reputation Management): Ensure CSI storytelling is ethical, brand‑aligned, and enhances RMA’s public reputation while respecting beneficiary dignity and POPIA requirements.
- Risk & Compliance: Maintain proactive risk identification, assessment, and mitigation in line with organisational risk registers, internal audit, and governance controls.
- Reporting Quality: Ensure high‑quality reporting for EXCO, Board, B‑BBEE verification, INSETA partners, and ESG disclosures, supported by clean, accurate, POPIA‑compliant data.
