THE JOB AT A GLANCE
To lead and drive RMA’s brand and communication strategy, ensuring alignment with its positioning as a trusted social insurer. The role is responsible for enhancing RMA’s reputation, strengthening stakeholder relationships, and ensuring consistent, impactful communication across all platforms. The incumbent will play a pivotal role in shaping RMA’s narrative, fostering employee engagement, and driving organisational impact through strategic brand leadership.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Enterprise Brand Stewardship
- Define and champion RMA’s brand architecture and corporate identity at board and executive committee level
- Ensure brand alignment with RMA’s strategic vision and social insurance mandate.
Strategic Communication Leadership
- Lead corporate communication strategy across all stakeholder groups, this includes both internal and external stakeholder relationship management
- Act as chief spokesperson and custodian of RMA’s reputation, managing media, crisis communication, and thought leadership.
Executive Influence & Governance
- Advise the CEO, Exco, and Board on brand and communication risks, opportunities, and strategic positioning
- Ensure compliance with regulatory communication standards and governance frameworks.
People & Culture Leadership
- Build and lead a high-performing Brand & Communication department, embedding a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence.
Organisational Impact & Stakeholder Engagement
- Drive initiatives that enhance employee engagement, customer trust, and societal impact
- Strengthen RMA’s influence within the insurance industry and broader social protection ecosystem.
Architect a strategic brand framework
- Create a brand of significant for RMA by increasing brand awareness to generate new business and strengthen brand equity through stakeholder management
- Ensure brand guidelines are adhered to in all marketing activities across the company
- Direct Corporate Identity and adherence of brand guidelines. Oversee overall creative designs (branding, user interface, web design, DTP and print media).
Strategic Brand Positioning
- Define and champion RMA’s brand identity, ensuring it reflects the organisation’s mandate as a leading social insurer administering COIDA, Life products, and AIT Administration
- Elevate brand equity and visibility through strategic campaigns that reinforce trust, relevance, and societal impact.
Corporate Communication
- Lead integrated communication strategies across all channels, acting as the chief spokesperson and custodian of RMA’s reputation
- Shape corporate narrative to align with enterprise strategy, ensuring consistency, clarity, and resonance with diverse audiences.
Stakeholder Confidence
- Build and sustain trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders through transparent, values-driven engagement
- Influence stakeholder perceptions by proactively managing issues, strengthening relationships, and positioning RMA as a responsible industry leader.
Employee Engagement
- Drive internal communication strategies that foster culture, inclusion, and alignment with RMA’s mission
- Position employees as brand ambassadors, embedding pride, accountability, and advocacy across the workforce.
Governance & Risk
- Provide executive oversight of communication governance, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and ethical practices
- Proactively manage reputational risk, embedding resilience and readiness in crisis communication frameworks.
Leadership Impact
- Inspire and lead the Brand & Communication department, embedding excellence, innovation, and accountability
- Influence enterprise strategy through brand leadership, ensuring communication is a strategic enabler of organisational success and societal impact.

Requirements:
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TABLE
- Honours Degree in Marketing, Communications, Business Leadership, or equivalent
- MBA or Executive Leadership Programme is advantageous
- 15 years’ experience in brand and communication, with at least 3 years’ experience in a strategic leadership role
- Proven track record in insurance/financial services, with exposure to social insurance and regulatory environments
- Demonstrated success in influencing boards, regulators, and industry stakeholders.

- Brand Strategy & Reputation Leadership: Proven authority in shaping corporate brand positioning and safeguarding reputation in highly regulated environments. Builds trust capital with stakeholders by embedding RMA’s social insurance mandate into its brand identity. Drives stakeholder confidence through consistent messaging, proactive reputation management, and alignment of brand narrative with organisational purpose.
- Insurance & Regulatory Acumen: Deep command of insurance industry dynamics, regulatory frameworks, and social protection mandates. Skilled at navigating compliance landscapes while positioning RMA as a thought leader in COIDA, Life, and AIT administration. Ensures brand and communication strategies reinforce regulatory credibility and strengthen RMA’s role as a trusted social insurer.
- Governance & Risk Oversight: Advanced capability in governance, risk management, and crisis communication at enterprise scale. Anticipates reputational risks, develops mitigation frameworks, and leads enterprise-wide communication responses during crises. Ensures brand resilience by embedding governance principles into communication strategies, protecting both organisational integrity and stakeholder trust.
- Executive Influence & Leadership: Exceptional ability to lead, negotiate, and influence at Exco and Board level. Operates as a strategic advisor who shapes executive decisions through compelling communication and brand insights. Builds alignment across leadership teams, ensuring brand and communication strategies are integrated into enterprise strategy and culture.
- Strategic Narrative & Impact: Skilled in translating complex organisational strategy into clear, compelling narratives that mobilise stakeholders. Crafts purpose-driven storytelling that resonates with employees, customers, regulators, and partners. Ensures communication is not only informative but also inspirational, reinforcing RMA’s positioning as a socially responsible insurer.
- Stakeholder & Public Affairs Engagement: Builds and sustains high-value relationships with regulators, government, unions, and industry bodies. Positions RMA as a trusted voice in public discourse, ensuring communication strategies advance both organisational and societal objectives.
- Digital & Media Fluency: Leverages digital platforms, social media, and emerging communication technologies to amplify brand reach. Skilled in media relations, digital storytelling, and reputation monitoring, ensuring RMA’s voice remains authoritative and adaptive in a fast-changing communication landscape.
- Employee Engagement & Culture Communication: Champions internal communication strategies that foster employee alignment, engagement, and pride in RMA’s mission.
