JOERNALIS

Huisgenoot het ’n vakante pos vir ’n joernalis vanaf 1 Maart 2026. Die kandidaat sal in Randburg gebaseer wees en aan die nuusredakteur rapporteer. Die hoofdoel van die rol is om uitstekende, relevante en feitelik korrekte artikels vir die titel se tydskrif en webtuiste te skryf.

Sleutelverantwoordelikhede

• Skryf uitstekende, feitelik korrekte artikels vir die titel se tydskrif en webtuiste;
• Doen onderhoude en navorsing vir artikels wat in die tydskrif en aanlyn gepubliseer sal word;
• Hou by streng inhoudspertye vir gedrukte- en digitale platforms;
• Genereer idees vir eksklusiewe en oorspronklike artikels vir gedrukte- en digitale platforms; 
• Voldoen aan die tydskrif se gehalte-, styl- en inhoudstandaarde;
• Skep en skakel met ’n netwerk van kontakte om stories te kry en te lewer;
• Werk op ’n ad hoc-grondslag aan diverse ander redaksionele projekte
• Voldoen aan die vereistes van die Suid-Afrikaanse Perskode. 

Die aansoeker moet die volgende kwalifikasies, ervaring, vaardighede en eienskappe hê:

•  Diploma of graad in joernalistiek, tale of mediastudies;
• Minstens vyf jaar ondervinding as joernalis, wat werkervaring by ’n tydskrif, nuus-webtuiste of koerant insluit;
• Vlot wees in Afrikaans en uitstekende skryfvaardighede in Afrikaans;
• Goeie algemene kennis en nuus-oordeel;
• Goeie netwerk van kennisse en kontakte;
• Verstaan hoe om sosiale media te gebruik;
• Kennis van die publikasie se teikenmark;
• Kennis van aktuele sake;
• Passie vir die media;
• Goeie mensevaardighede;
• Goeie besluitnemingsvermoë;
• Deursettingsvermoë, veerkragtigheid en probleemoplossingsvaardighede;
• Ondervragings- en luistervaardighede;
• Vermoë om onafhanklik te werk;
• Vermoë om onder uiterste druk te werk en streng spertye te haal;
• Goeie tydbestuur en die vermoë om gelyktydig en doeltreffend verskeie take uit te voer en af te handel
• Bereidwilligheid om na ure te werk wanneer nodig;

• Bedrewenheid in relevante rekenaar-sagtewarepakkette. 

JOURNALIST

Huisgenoot magazine has a vacancy for a journalist as from 1 March 2026. The candidate will be based in Randburg and will report to the news editor. The main purpose of the role is to produce excellent, relevant, compelling and factually correct articles for the title’s print and digital platforms.

Main Responsibilities:

• Write excellent, factually correct articles for the title’s print magazine and website;
• Do interviews and research for articles and features to be published in print and/or online;
• Adhere to strict content deadlines for print and digital platforms;
• Generate ideas for exclusive and original articles for print and digital platforms;
• Adhere to the title's quality, style and content standards;
• Generate and liaise with a network of contacts to identify story ideas and produce quality content;
• Work on diverse editorial projects on an ad hoc basis;
• Comply with the requirements of the South African Press Code.

The applicant will need to have the following qualifications, experience, skills and characteristics:

• Diploma or degree in journalism, languages or media studies;
• At least 5 years’ experience as a journalist, which includes experience writing for a magazine, news website or newspaper;
• Be fluent in Afrikaans and have excellent writing skills in Afrikaans;
• Good general knowledge and sound news judgment;
• Good network of contacts
• Understand how to use social media;
• Knowledge of the publication's target market;
• Knowledge of topical issues and current affairs;
• Passion for the media;
• Good people skills;
• Good decision-making abilities;
• Excellent judgment;
• Persistence, resilience and results orientation;
• Questioning and listening skills;
• The ability to work independently;
• The ability to work under extreme pressure and to strict deadlines;
• Good time management skills and the ability to multitask effectively and follow through;
