Employer: Ivanhoe Mines

The Kamoa Copper Mine is a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines (39.6%), Zijin Mining Group (39.6%), Crystal River Global Limited (0.8%) and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (20%). It's a very large, near-surface, flat-lying, stratiform copper deposit with adjacent prospective exploration areas within the Central African Copperbelt, at approximately 25 kilometres west of the town of Kolwezi and about 270 kilometres west of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi.

To manage and supervise two teams, one per underground Training Center, perform the role and accountabilities as mine overseer for the two underground training centers, supervise and oversee the underground training delivery for mining competence training and assessment, underground Learning from Incidents training (major impact) and activity-based training to all underground mining employees, including the supervisors up to miner level. 
You will have the following:

  • Certified in Training and development or mining.
  • Mine Overseer’s certificate of competence
  • Blasting certificate
  • Assessor & Moderator
  • Diploma or degree in Training and development or mining Safety training, preferred
  • 6+ years' relevant experience in an underground mining environment
  • 3 + years’ experience in Training and Development in underground mining environment
  • Proficiency in business English is mandatory. Knowledge of French and Swahili will be considered highly advantageous.

Technical Skills should include:

  • Reporting & metrics
  • MS Office
  • Quality Assurance Management.

Role Specific Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with mining machinery and equipment
  • An understanding of all mining support departments
  • National legislation regarding mining and labour legislation
  • Underground Training center management
  • Underground Production
  • Learning from Incidents training

   Your Key Performance Activities will include but not limited to:

  • Assist in the development and coordination an evolving mine training strategy and plan during the expansion phase of mine production.
  • Supervise the development of training programs for Underground Mining Competence Training and assessments, and Learning from Incidents Training.
  • Oversee the implementation of training programs for Underground Mining Competence Training and assessments, and Learning from Incidents Training
  • Quality assures structured curriculum per technical training program for Underground Mining Competence Training and assessments, and Learning from Incidents Training
  • Supervise scheduling of training programs for Underground Mining Competence Training and assessments, and Learning from Incidents Training
  • Manage the safety and health of all the senior officers, officers, and trainers underground and apply Visible Felt Leadership (VFL) at all times.
  • Stakeholder management- Build working relationships across teams and functional lines to enhance work delivery, collaboration and innovation
  • People - Coordinate, monitor and supervise the performance of direct reports
  • Finance - Monitor costs or expenses within approved budget to achieve cost efficiencies and reduce waste
  • Support the Transformation agenda-upport the Transformation agenda
  • HSEQ: Integrate HSEQ into all work processes
  • Reporting and Governance and Qualitty - Adhere to and improve reporting processes for the area of responsibility
