PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Responsible for leading the management, maintenance, and enhancement of our company's computer networks. Ensuring the highest level of network performance and security, providing expert technical support, and leading network projects and initiatives. This role requires advanced technical skills, strategic thinking, and the ability to mentor junior staff.
KEY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Network Design and Implementation:
- Design, implement, and manage complex network infrastructures.
- Plan and execute network upgrades, expansions, and optimizations.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies to improve network performance and security.
2. Network Maintenance and Monitoring:
- Ensure the continuous operation and maintenance of the network.
- Monitor network performance and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Perform regular backups, updates, and patches to network systems.
3. Network Security:
- Develop and enforce network security policies and procedures.
- Implement security measures such as firewalls, VPNs, and intrusion detection systems.
- Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.
4. Technical Support and Troubleshooting:
- Provide advanced technical support for network-related issues.
- Lead the troubleshooting and resolution of complex network problems.
- Serve as an escalation point for junior network administrators and IT staff.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of network configurations, changes, and incidents.
- Prepare and present reports on network performance, security, and projects.
- Ensure documentation is up-to-date and accessible to relevant stakeholders.
6. Team Leadership and Collaboration:
- Mentor and train junior network administrators and other IT staff.
- Collaborate with IT management to develop and implement IT strategies.
- Participate in cross-functional teams to support company-wide IT initiatives.
7. Vendor and Stakeholder Management:
- Manage relationships with network hardware and software vendors.
- Oversee the procurement and deployment of network equipment and services.
- Ensure compliance with service level agreements and contractual obligations.
8. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
- Develop and maintain network disaster recovery plans.
- Coordinate and execute regular testing of disaster recovery procedures.
- Ensure network resilience and business continuity in case of emergencies.
9. Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with the latest network technologies and industry best practices.
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance network operations.
- Pursue relevant certifications and training to maintain expertise.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Eight (8) years’ experience in network administration/engineering.
OTHER
- Advanced knowledge of networking protocols and technologies (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS).
- Proficiency with network hardware (routers, switches, firewalls) and management tools.
- Strong understanding of network security principles and practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Effective communication and leadership abilities.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, CISSP) are highly desirable.
- Valid Drivers’ License
- Namibian citizen
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- This position may require on-call availability and occasional after-hours work.
- The role involves working in an office environment, with some physical tasks such as installing and configuring network equipment.
