Sales Engineer – Industrial HVAC & Turnkey Projects

Sandton, Johannesburg | R850,000 CTC per annum

Are you a technically strong Mechanical Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges while working directly with clients?

Our client is a specialist engineering company that designs and delivers energy-efficient HVAC and climate control solutions for industrial and commercial environments across South Africa. Their expertise includes custom HVAC systems, air handling, humidification, dehumidification, air filtration, and climate management solutions for sectors such as manufacturing, warehousing, data centres, pharmaceuticals, and cold storage.

With a strong focus on reducing energy consumption and operating costs, they utilise innovative technologies including energy recovery systems, evaporative cooling, and advanced desiccant dehumidification, while delivering turnkey engineered solutions tailored to each client's operational requirements.

Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Sales Engineer to join their Projects and Engineering team based in Sandton.

About the Role

This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who combines technical expertise, commercial awareness, and project execution capability to deliver customised HVAC and climate control solutions for industrial and manufacturing environments.

As the Sales Engineer, you will be responsible for managing customer enquiries and project opportunities from initial consultation through design, quotation, project execution, and final handover. You will work closely with customers to understand their operational requirements, conduct site assessments, develop technical solutions, prepare proposals, and oversee project implementation to ensure successful outcomes.

This is a hands-on role requiring both strong technical design capability and excellent client-facing skills.

Candidate Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Manage and convert customer enquiries, leads, and project opportunities
Conduct site visits, inspections, assessments, and technical evaluations
Design HVAC and climate engineering solutions based on customer requirements
Prepare technical proposals, quotations, and project documentation
Liaise with customers throughout the project lifecycle and manage expectations
Build and maintain strong customer relationships
Attend and lead project meetings before, during, and after project completion
Provide technical guidance on equipment selection and system design
Make informed decisions regarding technology selection and project execution
Oversee project implementation and installation activities
Manage contractors, subcontractors, and installation teams on site
Monitor project quality, timelines, budgets, and technical compliance
Ensure adherence to health, safety, and regulatory requirements
Conduct project reviews and post-completion evaluations
Ensure projects are delivered to specification, on time, and to the required quality standards

Minimum Requirements

Essential

National Higher Diploma (Mechanical Engineering) or equivalent
Minimum 5 years' experience in a Sales Engineer role
Proven experience in HVAC systems and climate control solutions
Experience managing projects from concept and design through to installation and completion
Strong understanding of industrial HVAC applications
Valid Code 08 driver's licence and own reliable transport
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
Strong customer relationship management ability
Strong mathematical and analytical capability
Self-motivated with a proactive approach to problem-solving
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Willingness to learn and continuously develop technical knowledge

Highly Advantageous

BSc Mechanical Engineering
Industrial, manufacturing, process plant, or factory environment experience
Turnkey HVAC project experience
HVAC design and implementation expertise
AutoCAD proficiency
Project Management training or certification
SAIRAC HVAC courses and related technical certifications
Experience supervising contractors and installation teams
Afrikaans language skills
