Managerial Leader I - Mineral Resources Manager Production

 The Kamoa Copper Mine is a joint venture between Ivanhoe Mines (39.6%), Zijin Mining Group (39.6%), Crystal River Global Limited (0.8%) and the Government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (20%). It's a very large, near-surface, flat-lying, stratiform copper deposit with adjacent prospective exploration areas within the Central African Copperbelt, at approximately 25 kilometres west of the town of Kolwezi and about 270 kilometres west of the provincial capital of Lubumbashi.

Responsible for the leadership, management, and optimization of all underground mine geology, grade control, resource definition, infill drilling, hydrogeology, geological data management, and mine-to-mill reconciliation activities to ensure safe, sustainable, and profitable extraction of mineral resources. The role ensures geological accuracy and operational alignment between Mineral Resources, Mine Planning, Production, Processing, and Operations teams through effective orebody interpretation, geological modelling, production support, and reconciliation practices.

The MRM is accountable for maintaining geological confidence in the orebody model through continuous underground mapping, drilling interpretation, structural investigations, orebody position corrections, and reconciliation analysis. The position plays a critical role in minimizing ore loss and dilution while maximizing ore recovery and production performance. In operations with significant underground water inflows, the MRM also leads hydrogeological investigations, groundwater monitoring, inflow risk assessment, and integration of hydrology into mine planning and operational decision-making.

 
You will have the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, Earth Sciences, or related discipline.
  • Master’s Degree in Economic Geology, Mineral Resource Estimation, or related field is considered an asset
  • Minimum 10–15 years’ underground mining geology experience managing multidisciplinary technical teams
  • Extensive experience in production geology, grade control, underground resource definition drilling, geological modelling, reconciliation, and hydrogeology.
  • Experience in large-scale underground mining operations with significant groundwater inflows.
  • Strong understanding of structurally complex orebodies and geological risk management.
  • Experience with mechanized underground mining methods preferred
  • Proficiency in business English is mandatory. Knowledge of French and Swahili will be considered highly advantageous.

Technical Skills should include:

  • Strong understanding of underground mining methods and operational geology.
  • Advanced orebody interpretation and structural geology skills.
  • Strong reconciliation and statistical analysis capability.
  • Experience with geological modelling and mine planning software, such as: Leapfrog, Datamine. Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, acQuire
  • Strong database management and QAQC knowledge.
  • Hydrogeological interpretation and groundwater management experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Advanced report writing and presentation skills.

  • Stakeholder management: - Drive relationships with stakeholders to enable optimisation of the business value chain
