Employer: Durban University of Technology
- Assist researchers in technology and IP development for commercialization.
- Identify strategic research with capacity to be translated into innovative technologies commercial applications
- Assist with the management of innovation products and technology development
- Assist the implementation of the DUT commercialization framework
- Ensure that TTI activities are aligned with DUT’s overall operational objectives
- BSc/B-Tech Degree in Science, Engineering or Technology (STEM field)
- LLB, or Patent Board Exams
- WIPO Certifications – IP Primer, DL101PCT, DL101General Course,
- WIPO Summer School Certificate or DL401 Advanced Course in IP & Commercialization;
- Project Management Certification
- Minimum 1-2 years in technology transfer, innovation, or new business development, preferably within a technology transfer office.
- Exhibiting at expos or conferences
- Intellectual property evaluation – market analysis
- Facilitating and enabling innovation projects through funding calls
- Business development/Networking
- Familiar with license/assignment negotiation process
- Incubation support services
- Sourcing and screening invention disclosures
- Prior-art search and IP opinion
- Liaison with law firms
- Coordinating invoices and payments
- Assist with IP workshops and exhibitions
POST OF TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER AND IP OFFICER
The DUT Technology Transfer and Innovation Directorate is an academic research commercialization unit focused on driving university innovations into technologies and entrepreneurship through the university Technology Transfer, Innovation Development, Incubation Programme, IP Development, Academic Technology and IP Commercialization and Entrepreneurship. The office of the TTI Directorate is seeking to employ a Technology Transfer and IP Officer as follows:
Academic Research Technology Transfer
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To assist the Durban University of Technology (DUT) Technology Transfer Office to achieve its mandate of identification, analysis, protection, exploitation of intellectual property. This role entails responsibilities such as sourcing and screening invention disclosures, conducting prior art searches, liaison with law firms, coordination of invoices and payments, updating data information systems, reporting and compliance to NIPMO according to the IPR Act of 2008.
