Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Tailings Engineer to join a dynamic and highly regarded engineering team. This opportunity is suited to a motivated professional with extensive experience in tailings engineering who is looking to contribute to complex projects across Southern and West Africa while playing a key role in mentoring and developing engineering talent.

Requirements:

•       BEng or BSc Eng in Civil Engineering

•       Professional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer

•       Minimum 7 years of tailings engineering experience

•       Minimum 5 years’ experience using GeoStudio, Plaxis, Slide or similar software

•       Strong understanding of soil mechanics and geotechnical engineering principles

•       Experience with CPTu testing, interpretation and laboratory testing of soils and tailings materials

•       Experience in geotechnical investigations and tailings dam breach assessments

•       Proficiency in MS Office and MS Project/Primavera

•       Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Modelmaker

Responsibilities:

•       Plan, coordinate and schedule tailings engineering projects

•       Assist with proposal preparation and the appointment of sub-consultants and contractors

•       Conduct surveillance and monitoring of tailings storage facilities and return water dams

•       Support or perform Engineer of Record responsibilities, including annual audit inspections

•       Lead the design of new tailings storage facilities, return water dams and related infrastructure

•       Perform and oversee stability, seepage and geotechnical analyses

•       Conduct site investigations, inspections and construction monitoring activities

•       Manage project delivery and report progress to project managers and directors

•       Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge transfer within the team
