Employer: International Facilities Services

1. Purpose of the Role

  • 1.1. To coordinate and implement all site-based food safety programmes and standards.
    1.2. To provide technical direction on all food safety decisions.
    1.3. To evaluate the work environment and ensure compliance with food safety standards.
    1.4. To inspect the environmental impact of all food operations and advise on best methods to reduce related hazards.
2. Key Responsibilities
2.1. Regulatory and Policy Compliance
  • Ensure compliance with the food safety legislation, regulations and Company standards.
  • Ensure all internal practices and processes are aligned with requirements and best practice.
  • Manage, coordinate and participate in external and client inspections and/or incident investigations.

2.2. Food Safety Oversight and Training
  • Inspect the quality and safety standard of food production on the site to ensure adequate monitoring and coverage of the operation.
  • Assess environments where food is cooked and stored and ensure its adherence to hygiene, cleanliness and safety standards.
  • Maintain pest control procedures to ensure food is not contaminated.
  • Manage complaints and investigations regarding health and food safety.
  • Enforce allergen and packaging regulations across the site.
  • Maintain the food safety manual and provide regular training on its contents.
  • Conduct toolbox talks on food safety with the production team regularly and drive initiatives for improved food safety performance across the site.
  • Implement and maintain sanitary and hygiene conditions during the production and packing of food and dishes.
  • Take overall responsibility for initiating corrective action in the event of non-conformance.
  • Check daily reports for further improvement and take corrective action if necessary.
  • Take food samples and ensure their storage and testing in accordance with the Company SOPs.
  • Oversee ingredient quality and safety and the hygiene conditions of food storage, production and serving.

2.3. Risk Management
  • Conduct workplace and job specific hazard analysis to identify potential food safety hazards; determine the risks associated with these hazards; and develop and implement appropriate risk control measures.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of risk control measures and recommend changes.
  • Plan and conduct internal food safety audits, participate in external audits and make recommendation to management in terms of HSE legal and other requirements.
  • Identify food safety and any risk training requirements and ensure required training is conducted.
  • Investigate incidents / accidents / infectious disease outbreaks to establish the cause and to prevent further cases.
  • Conduct post incident investigations in order to identify root causes and determine appropriate preventative and corrective action.
  • Drive continual improvement in food safety performance performance by regularly monitoring site activities and assessing the implications of any new developments.

2.4. Food Safety Systems Coordination
  • Coordinate the development, implementation and management of a standardised and integrated HSE management system as it pertains to food safety.
  • Monitor refrigeration and food storage, preparation and serving practices.
  • Compile an annual coverage plan and conduct regular food safety inspections across the site according to the plan or ad hoc requirements.

2.5. Effective Teamwork and Self-Management
  • Take ownership and accountability for tasks and activities and demonstrate effective self-management in terms of planning and prioritising, and self-development.
  • Follow through to ensure that quality and productivity standards of work are consistently and accurately maintained.
  • Inform relevant parties in the event of tasks or deadlines not met, the potential risks thereof and provide appropriate resolution.
  • Manage colleagues’ expectations and communicate appropriately.
  • Demonstrate willingness to help others and “go the extra mile” to meet team targets and objectives

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Tertiary qualification in food safety or related field
  • Relevant accreditation/ certification in safety practices
  • 6 years’ experience in a food safety-related role
