Position Overview
An established organisation within the construction materials sector is seeking an experienced Dispatch Supervisor to oversee the efficient deployment and coordination of a concrete mixer truck fleet. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, cost-effective, and timely deliveries while maintaining high standards of customer service, fleet utilisation, regulatory compliance, and driver performance.
The successful candidate will possess strong logistics coordination skills, experience managing heavy vehicle fleets, and the ability to make sound operational decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily concrete mixer truck dispatch activities.
- Allocate vehicles to delivery orders based on product specifications, delivery windows, site accessibility, and traffic conditions.
- Monitor fleet movements and make real-time dispatch adjustments to address delays, route changes, and operational challenges.
- Communicate delivery updates and revised estimated arrival times to customers and site personnel.
- Lead and supervise a team of drivers, conducting daily operational and safety briefings.
- Ensure compliance with road transport legislation, AARTO requirements, company policies, and driver working-hour regulations.
- Coordinate closely with production and batching operations to align delivery schedules with manufacturing output.
- Maintain accurate dispatch documentation, delivery records, fleet utilisation reports, and operational KPIs.
- Track and report on key performance indicators, including on-time deliveries, turnaround times, fleet efficiency, and rejected loads.
- Conduct first-line performance management and disciplinary processes for drivers where required.
- Oversee daily vehicle inspections and coordinate with maintenance teams to minimise downtime and ensure vehicle availability.
- Manage customer delivery concerns and complaints professionally, ensuring prompt resolution.
- Assist in monitoring fleet operating costs, including fuel consumption, maintenance expenditure, and tyre management.
Minimum Requirements
- Minimum 8 years’ experience within transport dispatch, logistics, or fleet operations.
- At least 3 years’ experience supervising a fleet of 10 or more heavy motor vehicles in a high-volume operational environment.
- Experience within ready-mix concrete, construction logistics, bulk transport, or similar industries will be advantageous.
- National Diploma in Logistics, Transport Management, Operations Management, or related qualification.
- Experience using Transport Management Systems (TMS) and GPS fleet tracking platforms.
- Strong understanding of AARTO regulations, National Road Traffic legislation, fleet compliance requirements, and driver fitness standards.
- Valid Code 10 or Code 14 Driver’s Licence advantageous.
- Professional Driving Permit (PrDP) knowledge and awareness.
- Advanced computer literacy, including Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), fleet management systems, and electronic reporting tools.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Understanding of ready-mix concrete delivery requirements, including slump retention periods, drum rotation limits, and load quality management.
- Experience managing shift-based or 24-hour transport operations.
- Knowledge of fleet cost control, preventative maintenance planning, and fuel management.
- Ability to communicate effectively with diverse driver teams.
- Experience working in time-sensitive logistics environments where service delivery and operational efficiency are critical.
