1. JOB PURPOSE

The Business Development Manager (B-BBEE) is responsible for driving business growth while providing expert support to clients on B-BBEE strategy, compliance, and verification readiness. The role requires the incumbent to advise clients on transformation planning, assist with the compilation of B-BBEE documentation and verification files, and support clients through the verification process.

The position plays a key role in interpreting client information, reconciling data from multiple sources, and making informed recommendations that contribute to accurate B-BBEE scorecards and compliance outcomes. In addition, the role is responsible for maintaining strong relationships with clients and verification agencies, while promoting best practice, continuous learning, and innovation within the company.

2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1 Business Development

  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities in the B-BBEE consulting market.
  • Achieve individual sales and business development targets in line with annual performance objectives.
  • Maintain and grow relationships with existing clients to encourage repeat business and referrals.
  • Promote the company’s B-BBEE products and services to prospective clients.

2.2 Client Advisory and Strategy Development

  • Engage with clients to understand their business needs, transformation objectives, and compliance challenges.
  • Assist clients in developing practical B-BBEE strategies and implementation plans.
  • Advise clients on skills development spend, bursaries, learnerships, and other transformation-related initiatives.
  • Provide guidance on compliance requirements in line with applicable legislation and B-BBEE Codes.

2.3 B-BBEE File Compilation and Verification Support

  • Collect, assess, and reconcile client data from multiple sources to ensure accurate B-BBEE reporting.
  • Compile complete and accurate B-BBEE verification files for clients.
  • Prepare supporting documentation and evidence required for verification audits.
  • Support clients throughout the verification process and liaise with verification agencies where necessary.

2.4 Stakeholder and Relationship Management

  • Build and maintain professional relationships with verification agencies, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to clients on B-BBEE matters.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally with all stakeholders to ensure timely and effective service delivery.

2.5 Compliance and Best Practice

  • Ensure all advice and deliverables are aligned with current legislation, regulations, and B-BBEE codes.
  • Stay informed of changes in relevant laws, codes, and compliance requirements.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of internal systems, templates, and processes.
  • Share knowledge and best practices within the company to support continuous improvement.

3. KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS

  8. Contribution to process improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing.

5. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE

The incumbent must have knowledge and working understanding of the following:

  • Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act.
  • Skills Development Act.
  • Skills Development Levies Act.
  • Employment Equity Act.
  • B-BBEE Codes of Good Practice, including the 2007 and 2013 amended codes.
  • B-BBEE verification processes and related documentation requirements.
  • Basic financial principles and accounting concepts.
  • Sales, negotiation, and client relationship management.
  • Conflict management and problem-solving.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Additional requirements:

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong initiative and commitment to delivering quality work.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

6. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum Requirements:

  • Relevant Diploma or Degree in Commerce, Law, Human Resources, or a related field.
  • At least five (5) years’ working experience in B-BBEE consulting or a related compliance environment.

Preferred:

  • Experience in business development and client consulting.
  • Practical exposure to B-BBEE scorecards, verification files, and audit support.
  • Experience working with skills development initiatives, learnerships, and bursary programmes.

7. WORKING CONDITIONS

  • The role may require travel to clients and verification agencies.
  • The incumbent may be required to work extended hours to meet deadlines and client expectations.
  • The role requires frequent interaction with external stakeholders and internal teams.

8. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Business Development Manager (B-BBEE) reports directly to the Director and works closely with clients, verification agencies, and internal support staff as required.
