Employer: Finstone SA

Finstone SA (Division of Kudu Granite Marikana) is looking for a Health, Safety and Environmental Officer responsible for health, safety, environmental and risk management. The respective candidate should be highly organised, administrative, professional, and attention to detail orientated.

 

Summary purpose/expectations: 

The Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) officer is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of employees, contractors/visitors and to protect the environment. The role is critical to ensure the sites adhere to policies, procedures, standards and legal requirements, always ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and standards.

 

Key responsibilities: 

  • Conduct workplace inspections and risk assessments.
  • Ensure compliance with MHSA, COPs, SOPs, and company standards.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses.
  • Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, induction training and safety awareness campaigns.
  • Monitor contractor compliance, site safety performance and enforce safety requirements.
  • Compile safety reports and maintain legal records.
  • Assist management with implementation of safety improvement initiatives.
  • Promote safe working practices and employee awareness.
  • Assist in maintaining a high standard of housekeeping and operational safety on site.
  • Prepare and maintain legal files, compliance records, and supporting documentation for DMPR inspections.
  • Assist management with responses, corrective actions, and close-out reports relating to Section 54 and Section 55 instructions.
  • Liaise with the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) during inspections, audits, and official visits.
  • Complete accident, incident, and injury documentation and submit forms/reports to the DMPR within the required timeframe.
  • Compile and submit monthly, quarterly and annual statutory health and safety reports and related documentation to the DMPR.

Candidate Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 Certificate.
  • Safety Management Qualification.
  • Sound knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and applicable regulations.
  • Knowledge of risk assessments, incident investigations, and legal compliance requirements.
  • Computer literacy (MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Valid Blasting Certificate will be advantageous.
  • At least 3-5 years’ experience in a quarry or mining environment.

 

Skill and Competencies:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work under pressure, within a team and independently.
  • Good report writing and administrative skills.
  • Strong understanding of quarry operational hazards and controls.

 

General:

  • Applicant should be located to Brits / Rustenburg or surrounding arreas - SA Citizen Valid SA code 08 driver licence and own transport.
