AREA PHARMACIST

BASIC SALARY: R588 221 TO R635 305 PER ANNUM ● REF NO: HS 19/26 ● AREA EAST

Requirements:   

• Diploma in Pharmacy or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree 
• Current registration with the South African Pharmacy Council as a practicing Pharmacist
• At least three (3) years’ experience in the public primary health care environment 
• Sound knowledge of current medicines and the essential medicine list 
• Strong project management skills 
• Demonstrated skills in system-thinking and quality improvement 
• Proven interpersonal and administrative skills 
• Integrity 
• A valid Code 8 driver’s licence. 

Key performance areas:  

1. Ensure Legal Compliance by ensuring that the pharmaceutical services comply with the provisions of the Pharmacy Act
2. Area level oversight and part of the Area management team: 
   • Ensuring high level of efficient medicine management in the Area as well as Good Pharmacy Practices
   • Monitor and evaluate quality of pharmaceuticals within the Area sites
   • Assist with identifying training needs and management of Pharmacist’s Assistants (Post-basic) competencies in area clinics 
   • Performing regular audits of facilities medicine rooms and dispensaries to ensure facility-based staff maintain general pharmaceutical supply management in accordance with city health policies and guidelines
   • Co-ordinate the leave of the pharmacist’s assistants (post basic) and assist with locum cover. 
3. Play an oversight and networking role within all pharmacies: 
   • Represent the area-based pharmacy services
   • Advise clinical personnel and furnish information in respect of new developments in the field of pharmaceuticals, new product developments and other pharmaceutical related matters 
   • Co-ordinate, monitor and evaluate pharmacy services in the Area 
   • Manage and implement roll out of new pharmaceutical services
   • Provide strategic leadership and oversight for the effective and efficient provision of pharmaceutical services in the Municipality 
   • Work closely with external service providers to formulate plans and systems that align with city health strategic goals and provincial/ national policies within pharmaceutical services. 
4. Support work processes of Senior and Responsible Pharmacists; Allocating duties, functions and monitor performance
5. Performing administrative responsibilities.
