The Department of Ichthyology and Fisheries Science invite suitably qualified candidates to join their team.
Main Objectives
To assist and support the Manager: Admin and Technical Support and be responsible for the day-to-day running of the Departments technical facilities which are required for research, teaching purposes and service provision. He/she will be responsible for the aquaculture facilities and the outreach programmes and will be expected to work after hours and on weekends as required.
The Requirements
Grade 12 with either science or biology at the Grade 12 level plus 4 approximately years’ relevant experience where such experience includes: -
- Previous experience in aquaculture and/or work associated with maintaining life support systems for marine or freshwater organisms.
- Previous experience working on a fish farm or in a fish hatchery or aquatic science laboratory.
- Previous technical experience and/or a proven technical ability.
- Must show an aptitude and willingness to care for live animals.
- At least 6-months’ previous supervision experience and/or be in possession of an RU Supervision Certificate.
- Ability to swim.
- Must be in possession of a valid driver’s licence. A PDP licence will be an advantage. If the job incumbent does not have a PDP licence they must be prepared to obtain one in the future should this be required. In such a case the Institution will cover the costs of obtaining such a licence.
- Boating experience and a Skippers license will be an advantage.
- A Degree/Diploma in aquatic sciences or equivalent will be an advantage and/or those study towards such a qualification will have an advantage.

Remuneration per annum (Grade 09):
Basic Pensionable Salary per annum: R324 203
Cost to Company per annum (Approximately): R445 208
