- As a Regional Technical Specialist, your primary focus is to improve the reliability, efficiency, compliance, and lifecycle performance of key technical systems across the region, with a strong emphasis on HVAC systems, supported by ancillary technical domains including electrical, plumbing, controls, pumps, hot water systems, water treatment, and general plant infrastructure.
- You are responsible for providing specialist technical support across all clubs within your assigned regions, working closely with the Regional Facilities Managers, Club General Managers, club Facilities teams, suppliers, and National Head Office functions.
- You act as a technical escalation point, coach, troubleshooter, and improvement partner to the Regional Facilities Managers, helping clubs resolve recurring technical issues, reduce downtime, improve member experience, optimise utilities, and ensure technical standards are consistently applied.
- Provide specialist technical support to all clubs across the region/s, supporting the Regional Facilities Managers and club Facilities teams.
- Act as a regional escalation point for complex, recurring, or high-impact technical issues.
- Diagnose and support resolution of faults relating to HVAC, plant equipment, electrical systems, plumbing systems, controls, pumps, hot water systems and related infrastructure.
- Conduct site visits to assess technical issues, validate contractor findings, and recommend corrective actions.
- Support root-cause analysis on repeated failures, excessive breakdowns, poor system performance, or unresolved member-impacting issues.
- Provide practical, technically sound recommendations that balance reliability, cost, compliance, energy efficiency, and member experience.
- Provide specialist oversight and support for HVAC systems across the region, including chillers, cooling towers, air-handling systems, ventilation systems, controls, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, and associated plant.
- Assist in the development and implementation of national HVAC maintenance standards and operating practices.
- Review HVAC performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, comfort, energy efficiency, and asset life.
- Support clubs and RFMs in identifying early signs of plant degradation, incorrect operation, poor maintenance, or inefficient system performance.
- Assist with technical reviews of plant replacement, upgrade, refurbishment, and improvement proposals.
- Support the correct operation and maintenance of building management systems and control strategies where applicable.
- Support RFMs in ensuring preventative maintenance is technically appropriate, effectively executed, and aligned with VASA policies, procedures, and asset requirements.
- Review maintenance quality and contractor outputs, providing technical feedback where standards are not met.
- Help standardise technical maintenance approaches across clubs in the region.
- Support the development and improvement of technical checklists, inspection routines, planned maintenance schedules, and technical operating procedures.
- Identify gaps in technical capability, maintenance quality, or system understanding and recommend corrective actions.
- Support RFMs in managing and evaluating technical suppliers and contractors.
- Review technical quotes, reports, service recommendations, and proposed remedial works for accuracy, relevance, and cost-effectiveness.
- Challenge unnecessary, excessive, or poorly justified technical recommendations from suppliers.
- Assist with scope definition for technical works, ensuring requirements are clear, practical, and aligned to business needs.
- Validate completed works where required and support handover to club Facilities teams.
- Provide input into supplier performance reviews from a technical quality perspective.
- Support RFMs and the Energy Manager in identifying technical opportunities to reduce energy and water consumption.
- Investigate utility anomalies linked to HVAC, pumps, hot water systems, leaks, controls, or plant operation.
- Recommend practical interventions to improve technical efficiency and reduce wastage.
- Support optimisation of HVAC operating parameters, schedules, controls, and maintenance practices.
- Provide technical input into CAPEX planning, plant replacement, refurbishments, and regional improvement initiatives.
- Support RFMs with technical due diligence on proposed equipment replacements or upgrades.
- Review project specifications, contractor proposals, and equipment selections where relevant.
- Support commissioning, snagging, and technical handover of completed works.
- Ensure club teams receive appropriate technical guidance and training after new installations or upgrades.
- Provide feedback on recurring project-related technical issues to improve future standards and specifications
- Support RFMs in ensuring technical systems are operated and maintained safely and in line with VASA Health & Safety policies.
- Identify and escalate technical risks that could affect member safety, operational continuity, compliance, or asset integrity.
- Support compliance-related technical requirements in areas such as HVAC, water systems, electrical infrastructure, hot water vessels, and plant rooms.
- Assist with technical audits and follow-up actions where required.
- Ensure technical recommendations consider legal requirements, VASA standards, safe working practices, and contractor compliance.
- Coach and support club Facilities teams to improve technical understanding, fault identification, and first-line problem solving.
- Support RFMs in developing the technical capability of club teams.
- Contribute to technical training material, toolbox talks, standard operating procedures, and regional knowledge-sharing sessions.
- Share lessons learned from technical failures, supplier issues, successful improvements, and root-cause investigations.
- Promote a culture of ownership, preventative thinking, continuous improvement, and pride in technical standards.rovide technical input into CAPEX planning, plant replacement, refurbishments, and regional improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with multiple Regional Facilities Managers across the region, providing technical support without replacing their operational ownership of clubs.
- Provide clear technical feedback, findings, and recommendations following site visits or investigations.
- Maintain visibility of recurring regional technical issues and support prioritisation of remedial actions.
- Assist with technical reporting on major faults, asset condition, utility anomalies, maintenance quality, and improvement opportunities.
- Collaborate with National Head Office, Regional Lead RFMs, Energy Manager, project teams, consultants, and suppliers where required. and support club Facilities teams to improve technical understanding, fault identification, and first-line problem solving.
