Experienced Customs Clerk required to prepare and submit customs declarations, handle shipping documentation, coordinate timely shipment clearances within a fast-paced freight forwarding environment.

A well-established company in the logistics and freight forwarding industry is seeking a skilled Customs Clerk to join their team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and processing customs entries as well as capturing and submitting customs declarations, ensuring compliance with customs legislation and company procedures. Duties will include monitoring shipment progress to ensure timely clearance, handling customs queries and inspections, and liaising with freight forwarders, shipping lines, clearing agents, customs officials, and clients. The role also involves verifying shipping documentation, calculating applicable duties and VAT, maintaining accurate records for audit purposes, and ensuring goods are classified correctly using HS (Harmonized System) codes.
 
Requirements:
Grade 12 / Matric
2 – 5 years’ experience within customs clearing or freight forwarding
Relevant qualification in Logistics, Freight Forwarding, or International Trade advantageous
Knowledge of customs procedures, tariff classifications, import/export regulations, and Incoterms
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work well under pressure and meet strict deadlines
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Computer literate in MS Office
