Dis-Chem Pharmacies’ Distribution Centre in Midrand has an opportunity available for a DC Machine Operator - Reach Truck to join the team. The main purpose of this role is to achieve operational excellence, within the Dis-Chem Distribution Centre. Ensure efficient and accurate picking, replenishment and counting of stock in line with company standard operational procedures within the warehouse. Transport of goods from one point to another as per management/ operational requirements using relevant machinery.

Essential:
- Grade 12 / Matric
- 1 -2 years’ relevant experience
- Valid Reach Truck license
Job Specification…
Maintenance and operation:
- Check the conditions of the machine and report any damage or irregularities.
- Ensure when the cage is attached to your machine it needs to be correctly secured with chains. It is your responsibility to ensure all occupants of the cage wear safety harnesses.
- Test the hydraulics/ mechanical/ electrical systems of the machine and the information gauges to ensure that they are functioning properly.
- Verify that all points on the maintenance checklist are complete.
- When parking the machine after a job is completed, park the machine in designated area and ensure the forks are touching the ground.
- Ensure the forks and cage of the reach truck is clean.
- Check if fuel/ charge are required and inform maintenance technician accordingly.
- Accurately report on the condition of the machine and any maintenance activity or replacement that may be required to the supervisor.
- Ensure the machine operator agreement is understood and signed.
- Ensure safety harness is worn when necessary.
Putting away stock/ Replenishment of stock:
- Pack away or transport stock within the building, following the instructions from the scanner.
- Ensure material on pallets is stable, neat and evenly distributed to ensure safe transportation of stock.
- Ensure pallets are tightly wrapped before pallet is taken from source location.
- Accurately locate goods required in the pack-away process and scan/enter collection door number, HU barcode and bin number.
- Ensure goods lifted are within the machines weight and size limits.
- Ensure all items present on the pallet, is in good condition/ undamaged before put away.
- In case of damage or spills transport goods to quarantine area and unload them for further action, reporting this to Inventory.
- Ensure goods moved are in fact the goods that are meant to be moved.
- Transport the pallets to the respective storage location and store them safe and neatly in the bin allocate
- Confirm storage by scanning the required storage bin.
- Assist co-workers in physical inventories when requested.
- Action replenishments, when queued to do so via the SAP EWM vehicle / arm mount.
- Collect and transport the stock to the bin or replenishment station and confirm both removal and placement thereof.
- Ensure that correct bin is selected and confirmed.
- Replenishment needs to happen per box, per level and done so accurately.
- Ensure all stock discrepancies are reported to inventory team.
Picking:
- Ensure goods loaded are within the machines weight and size limits.
- Picking needs to happen per box, per level and done so accurately.
- Ensure orders are picked, once an order is received.
- Ensure that necessary totes/ boxes are used and rules are followed at all times, when receiving picking instructions.
- Ensure necessary standards of speed, accuracy and targets are maintained, while picking.
- Ensure all goods when picked are loaded into the system guided coloured tote or box.
- Ensure that the completed order is dropped off at the correct checking area or conveyor.
- Don’t remove stock from the warehouse area, without proper documentation or the approval of the manager or pharmacist.
- Ensure that specialized procedures and security measures are followed, when picking in areas, like fridge, food or restricted/ scheduled areas.
- Ensure that the warehouse and storage areas space is used in an optimal manner.
- Must be willing to be rotated to where needed and must be willing to perform any other functions within the department, should the need arise.
- Ensure material on pallets is stable, neat and evenly distributed to ensure safe transportation of stock.
- Ensure all stock discrepancies are reported to inventory team.
Inventory:
- Assist the inventory controller or stock controller, by using the reach truck and a cage, when required to help with Inventory counts.
- Assist the safe transportation of the inventory controller during these stock counts.
- Ensure pallets are put back in its bin position, once counting has been done.
- Assist with movement of stock around the DC, when Inventory Department is busy with space planning.
Storage security:
- Report any accidents and other incidents to the supervisor.
- Report any stock discrepancies.
- Ensure work that’s being handed over is explained accurately to the relieving reach truck operator, taking over from your shift and inform operator of any incidents in previous shift.
- Fill in logbook on hours completed and obtain signature of relieve operator once handover is completed, if required.
General:
- Housekeeping must be in accordance to Dis-Chem standards. Make sure that your workstation is always clean and tidy.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem Policies and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Adhere to Health and Safety rules and regulations.
- Adhere to Dis-Chem Uniform and personal appearance policy.
