Description:

Starke Ayres is the foremost African specialist and global supplier of premium vegetable, flower and lawn seed varieties – both for commercial and home garden planting. The following position has become available for a Credit Controller, based in Cape Town.


To maintain and control accurately a National Debtors book by ensuring optimum cash flow while reducing the risk of bad debt within the framework of Company Policy.


REQUIREMENTS:



  • Sorts and check statements after month-end and ensures that each customer receives their statement

  • Ensures that posting of all transactions is completed by close of business on the last financial day of the month.

  • Processes all payments, matches credits against claims and when necessary ensures that all discounts and VAT transactions are processed on each account before close of business on the last financial day of the month.

  • Collects all due and overdue accounts in accordance with the Company’s credit policy.

  • Allocates and ages of payments received on the same day that they appear on the bank statement. Ensures that all claims are credited and credits allocated correctly, up-dates age analysis and submits to National Credit Manager.

  • Handles all queries and correspondence from customers by following up on uncredited claims and rejected claims.

  • Prepares required documentation for foreign exchange banking.

  • Prepares Debtors Cession document for Bank.

  • Visit customers at least once per year.

  • Fully co-operates with other Departments within the Company in the execution of his/her duties.

  • Acts responsibly and professionally at all times, fostering goodwill and a positive image for the Company.

  • May be required to carry out tasks that are not routine but will enable collections of money on an adhoc basis.

  • Reconciles all balance b/f accounts on a monthly basis.

  • Follows up on all outstanding or unpaid items in writing and keeps proof of the follow up.

  • Reports on all actions on a monthly basis and report must be complete by the 7th of each month.

  • Monitors and ensures claims are actioned promptly and in accordance with the Company’s credit policy.

  • Submits provision for credit notes and recommends write offs annually to the National Credit Manager by the 7th of each month.

  • Investigates and reports contraventions of the Company policy regarding related procedures such as claims, POD’s etc.

  • All reporting should be done formally by e-mails and copies of correspondence to always ensure a logical papertrail of events.

  • Any informal reporting should be followed up with an e-mail as and when is reasonable for the purposes of any follow up queries.

  • Reporting should be provided to the National Credit Manager on account and staff matters, therefore there is a responsibility in terms of monitoring these areas at all times.

  • Compiles and submits a monthly retail report regarding payment trends, rebates, discounts, claims etc. due by the 7th of each month.

Qualification:



  • Grade 12 (essential)

  • Credit 3 Management Diploma (preferential)


Previous experience:



  • 4 years of Retail (FMCG) Credit Control Experience (essential)


Skills:



  • Advanced Excel skills

  • Sage experience

  • FMCGX platform experience (advantage)
