Position Purpose
The main purpose of the position is to
take ownership of Electrical engineering site works in the region and advise on
electrical installation replacement and refurbishment projects. The Technical Manager:
Electrical will be responsible for providing the regional facilities manager
with engineering solutions, ensuring quality of workmanship, completing all
tasks assigned working alongside other discipline engineers and technical in
planning, design, development and evaluation stages of projects.
Position Outputs
• During project execution, update the Project Execution Plan (where necessary) to ensure that all assumptions and constraints are still valid and that the stated approach is reflective of the current project delivery.
• Participate and/or drive feasibility studies, vendor selections and proposals for evaluation by appropriate key stakeholders
• Complete the appropriate risk-assessment (quantitative / qualitative) for the project.
• Promote compliance with all relevant engineering standards and internal procedures for all design activities
• Maintain structural engineering work procedures, specifications and computer aided design programs
• Prepare engineering calculations
• Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
• Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
• Prepare and/or review project standard specifications and design criteria
• Participate in and contribute to design reviews• Carry out assigned tasks within budget and schedule
• Lead in defining project scope and assist in preparing proposals
• Review and evaluate technical work prepared by junior engineers, intermediate engineers, designers, technicians and technologists
• Assist in the compilation and delivery of monthly engineering status reports. Support technical teams in project delivery including health and safety matters..
• Managing Construction personnel and project delivery• Responsible for the technical output and financial results.
• Participate in interdisciplinary review of project deliverables
• Overseeing Service delivery / costs (Electricity supply disputes resolutions/Accounts billing issues/incorrect statement / new supply services/termination of service)
• Attending to all breakdowns in the plant with the replacement of worn and damaged components and support production with reinstating equipment, jig fixtures and testing equipment to the intended operational state.
Qualifications and Experience
NQF 6 in Electrical Engineering/Facilities Management
Advantageous: Transnet Leadership Development Programme
Min 5 years’ relevant experience in a large enterprise, preferably with 1 year supervisory or specialist experience.
