About the Role
We are looking for a highly experienced Technical Engineering Manager to lead the engineering strategy, maintenance innovation, and asset optimisation of our locomotive fleet and yellow equipment across South Africa.
This is a senior leadership role reporting directly to the COO, responsible for shaping the future of our engineering capability through innovation, reliability improvement, and advanced maintenance practices.
Key Responsibilities
Lead technical engineering strategy for locomotives and mobile plant
Drive refurbishment, repowering, and upgrade programmes
Ensure fleet availability, reliability, and performance optimisation
Oversee maintenance operations across multiple sites
Act as the technical authority on engineering standards and design
Ensure compliance with RSR, SANS, and OEM standards
Implement data-driven maintenance and reliability improvements
Manage budgets, suppliers, and spare parts strategy
Lead and develop a high-performing technical team
Provide executive-level reporting and strategic input

- Rail: 10 years or more
- Logistics Maintenance Environment: 10 years or more
Candidate Requirements
Minimum Requirements
Grade 12
Red Seal Artisan (Diesel Electrical / Mechanical / Electrical)
Minimum 12+ years’ experience in heavy engineering / rail / logistics
Minimum 5 years of management experience
Proven experience in locomotive maintenance environments
Strong exposure to yellow equipment / mobile plant maintenance
Valid driver’s licence
Willingness to travel nationally
Advantageous
National Diploma or Degree in Engineering
GCC (Government Certificate of Competency)
Experience with engineering innovation, repowering, or alternative energy systems
