Job Purpose

Komatsu South Africa is looking for a Senior Technical Product Specialist to provide specialised, Expert-level technical product support across the organisation for Komatsu equipment within the KLTD, mining and construction business. The purpose of this role is to ensure the optimal performance, availability, quality, and lifecycle management of Komatsu mining and construction equipment by delivering expert product advice, disseminating technical information, and acting as a key technical liaison between internal teams, customers, dealers, suppliers, and Komatsu parent companies.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Product Advice & Support

Provide expert technical advice on Komatsu mining and earthmoving equipment
Support branches, depots, dealers, and customers with troubleshooting, diagnostics, and root cause analysis
Analyse electronic onboard control systems, hydraulic systems, and VHMS/Komtrax data to improve machine availability
Assist where equipment does not meet contractual availability targets
Conduct site visits across customer operations and regional Africa operations

Quality Control (Product-Specific)

Conduct audits and site visits to evaluate service quality and technical compliance
Investigate warranty claims and collaborate with all stakeholders on resolutions
Provide quality specifications and standards for locally sourced parts
Contribute to continuous improvement and service excellence initiatives

Technical Liaison & Stakeholder Engagement

Act as the technical link between Head Office, branches, depots, suppliers, and Komatsu parent companies
Coordinate technical campaigns, product initiatives, and service drives
Support training development by ensuring technical content remains current and relevant

Safety, Health & Environment (SHE)

Actively participate in SHE initiatives, audits, training, and incident investigations
Support compliance with SHE legislation, policies, and procedures
Promote safe work practices across all operational environments

Required Skills

Troubleshooting: 10 years or more
Mechanical Systems: 10 years or more
Electronic Diagnostic Systems: 10 years or more

Candidate Requirements

Qualifications

Diploma (T5 / NQF Level 6) or equivalent in an engineering-related field (Advantageous)
Trade Certificate Millwright or HEM
Valid South African passport or able to obtain

Experience

Minimum 10 years’ experience in mining and earthmoving equipment specifically to the KLTD product
Strong hands-on technical background
Komatsu product knowledge highly advantageous
Product Support experience highly advantageous

Technical Competence

Strong understanding of hydraulic, electronic control, and mechanical systems
Experience in troubleshooting, failure analysis, and lifecycle costing
Familiarity with Komtrax, EQP care, VHMS, and electronic diagnostic systems
