Boschendal Wine Estate, based in the Franschhoek area, is seeking a driven and talented Assistant Winemaker to join their cellar team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated individual with an eagerness to grow within a dynamic, quality-focused environment. The successful candidate has strong team management abilities, along with excellent communication-, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
The role will be focused on Cap Classique and White Wine production. Responsibilities will include (but not be limited to): *Assisting Winemaker in all activities related to making, blending and processing wines *Supporting harvest planning and coordination; Supervising grape intake and fermentation; Maintaining accurate vintage records *Overseeing racking, blending, filtration, barrel work, bottling prep disgorging; Enforcing hygiene and sanitation standards *Monitoring fermentations and wine development; Monitoring routine analysis *Assisting with blending trials and blending; Preparing wines for bottling; Overseeing bottling and disgorging process *Training and managing cellar staff *Administrative tasks: stock management, making worksheets, capturing to SAP, SAWIS, etc. *Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinating with vineyard, logistics, and sales teams as needed; Representing the winery during tastings, technical meetings, and trade events when required *All other tasks related to the role.
Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
• Degree/Diploma in Viticulture and Oenology, or similar qualification;
• Minimum 2-4 years’ cellar or winemaking experience (experience in Cap Classique production will be advantageous);
• Excellent computer proficiency (MS Office, SAP experience will be advantageous);
• Willingness to work hours as per wine production requirements;
• Own reliable transport.
