We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Engineering (Electrical) to lead the engineering function within a fast-growing solar energy company based in Somerset West. This role is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, and optimisation of solar energy systems, while leading a high-performing engineering team and ensuring technical excellence across all projects.

REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering (BEng / BSc or equivalent)
Professional registration (ECSA) highly advantageous
15 – 20 years’ experience in electrical engineering, with significant exposure to solar/renewable energy projects
Proven leadership experience managing engineering teams
Strong knowledge of solar PV design, grid integration, and electrical systems
Experience with relevant software (e.g. PVsyst, AutoCAD, Helioscope or similar)
In-depth understanding of South African electrical standards and regulations

DUTIES:

Lead and manage the electrical engineering team, ensuring high performance and continuous development
Oversee the design and engineering of solar PV systems (commercial and/or utility-scale)
Ensure all projects comply with relevant electrical standards, regulations, and safety requirements
Provide technical leadership across project lifecycle – from feasibility to commissioning
Collaborate with project management, procurement, and operations teams to ensure successful project delivery
Review and approve engineering designs, drawings, and technical documentation
Drive innovation, efficiency, and cost optimisation within engineering processes
Manage engineering budgets, timelines, and resource allocation
Engage with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies where required
