Role Purpose
The Electrical Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment within the plant environment.
The role focuses on ensuring the reliability, efficiency, and safety of electrical infrastructure through preventative maintenance, fault finding, and rapid response to breakdowns. The incumbent plays a key role in supporting continuous plant operations by maintaining high voltage systems, troubleshooting faults, and ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Electrical Installation & Maintenance
Ensure the effective installation, connection, and maintenance of electrical equipment.
• Install, connect, and maintain electrical equipment including power distribution systems, generators, transformers, and high voltage switches.
• Perform preventative maintenance through regular inspections and replacement of faulty components.
• Maintain lightning protection systems and surge protection equipment.
• Implement maintenance programmes to ensure equipment longevity and reliability.
Fault Finding & Troubleshooting
Diagnose and resolve electrical issues to minimise downtime.
• Conduct testing, measurement, and repairs on electrical circuits and plant equipment.
• Troubleshoot faults using schematics, drawings, and technical instructions.
• Apply strong problem-solving techniques to identify root causes of failures.
Plant Operations Support
Ensure uninterrupted plant operations through effective technical support.
• Respond to emergency situations such as power outages to minimise disruptions.
• Prepare high voltage systems for contractor work, including isolation and grounding.
• Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams to ensure continuity of production.
Shutdown & Work Management
Plan and manage maintenance activities effectively.
• Plan and coordinate electrical shutdowns for maintenance and construction activities.
• Prepare, assign, and track work orders using CMMS systems.
• Ensure all work is completed within required timelines and standards.
Compliance & Safety
Ensure adherence to safety standards and regulatory requirements.
• Comply with Occupational Health and Safety standards and plant safety procedures.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and regulations.
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with ISO quality, safety, and environmental standards.
Required Skills
- Electrical Technician: 5 to 6 years
Candidate Requirements
Role Requirements
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or
Diploma or completed Apprenticeship in Electrical discipline.
Experience
Minimum 5 years post-apprenticeship experience in a similar role.
Experience working with plant equipment and maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of electrical systems within an industrial or plant environment.
Technical Competencies
Knowledge of PLC systems, SCADA, and HMIs.
Understanding of signal exchange systems (Profibus, MPI, IFM, etc.).
Proficiency in using hand tools, power tools, soldering, and fault-testing equipment.
Strong understanding of maintenance procedures and plant systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
Experience with CMMS systems for work order management.
Behavioural Competencies
Strong fault-finding and problem-solving ability.

High attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies.
Strong planning and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Requirements
Knowledge of ISO standards (quality, safety, and environmental).
Understanding of Occupational Health and Safety Act requirements.
