The People Manager - Operations will oversee all on-site HR related functions for the operation in the Western Cape. This role ensures optimal staffing levels, effective recruitment, compliant ER practices, robust training execution, and accurate HR administration feeding into HQ payroll processes. This role requires a strong operational mindset, the ability to work in high‑volume warehousing environments, and proven capability in managing on‑site HR teams.
Key performance areas
Workforce Planning & Staffing
- Manage daily, weekly, and monthly manning to align with operational demand.
- Monitor headcount, absenteeism, overtime trends, and staffing gaps.
- Ensure shift rosters, attendance records, and timesheets are accurately captured and submitted.
- Lead workforce forecasting in collaboration with operations leadership.
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Oversee end-to-end recruitment for warehouse and support roles.
- Coordinate interviews, assessments, reference checks, and offer processes.
- Manage new‑hire onboarding, induction, and integration.
Training & Development Skills
- Ensure compliance with mandatory operational and safety training.
- Identify training gaps and development needs through data and performance trends.
- Maintain training matrices, attendance, and certification records.
- Facilitate onsite training sessions where required.
HR Administration & Payroll Support
- Manage employee documentation, contracts, renewals, terminations, and file audits.
- Ensure accurate capture and submission of HR data into HQ payroll systems.
- Oversee leave management, medicals, clocking systems, and employee record integrity.
- Ensure compliance with POPIA, BCEA, and company policies.
Employee Relations (ER)
- Provide first-line ER support for disciplinary issues, grievances, and poor performance.
- Guide, line managers on labour legislation, policies, and best practices.
- Prepare case documentation, chair hearings when required, and handle CCMA preparations.
- Promote and maintain a positive, fair, and compliant working environment.
Team Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
- Lead and develop the onsite HR team (HR officers, administrators, recruiters).
- Build strong relationships with warehouse operations leadership.
- Participate in daily/weekly operational meetings and drive HR performance metrics.
- Ensure consistent alignment with HQ HR strategy and reporting processes.

Candidate Requirements
Qualifications required
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years’ experience in an HR Generalist with at least 2 years in an operational/warehousing environment.
Skills and experience required
- Workforce planning, staffing execution, and headcount optimisation expertise
- Proven payroll management experience in an operational or multi-site environment.
- Strong working knowledge of South African labour and payroll legislation.
- Experience in logistics, warehousing, distribution, or similar operational environments will be advantageous.
- Experience managing on-site HR teams.
- Strong ER background with exposure to CCMA processes.
- Demonstrated experience supporting payroll data and HRIS systems.
- Excellent planning, organising, and coordination skills.
- Ability to thrive in a high‑volume, fast‑paced environment.
- Effective communication and stakeholder management.
- Problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to operate independently within an outsourced or embedded HR model
