Mechanical Maintenance & Repairs
- Service and repair diesel engines, heavy vehicles, and plant equipment.
- Diagnose mechanical faults using diagnostic tools and manual inspection.
- Repair or replace defective parts including engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct routine servicing including oil changes, filter replacements, lubrication, and adjustments.
- Perform preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and downtime.
- Carry out field service repairs and breakdown response when required.
Diagnostics & Fault Finding
- Identify mechanical and electrical faults using diagnostic software and testing equipment.
- Inspect vehicles and machinery to identify worn or damaged components.
- Troubleshoot hydraulic, electrical, and air brake systems.
- Read and interpret technical manuals and workshop diagrams.
Workshop & Safety
- Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment.
- Follow company safety procedures and safe work practices.
- Use tools and equipment safely and correctly.
- Complete job cards, service reports, and maintenance records.
- Report additional repair requirements to supervisor or manager.
Plant & Equipment
- Service and repair civil construction equipment such as:
- Excavators
- Graders
- Rollers
- Skid steers
- Trucks and trailers
- Line marking machines
- Generators and small plant
General Duties
- Assist with workshop organisation and tool maintenance.
- Ensure spare parts are recorded and used correctly.
- Participate in toolbox meetings and safety meetings.
- Work both independently and as part of a team.
- Assist with other mechanical or operational tasks as required.
Required Skills
- Diesel Mechanic Qualification: 5 to 6 years
- Experience On Trucks And Heavy Machinery: 2 to 3 years
Candidate Requirements
Key Skills Expected
- Diesel mechanic qualification or relevant trade experience
- Experience working on trucks and heavy machinery
- Experience with hydraulics and electrical systems
- Ability to diagnose and repair faults independently
- Welding and fabrication experience (advantage)
- Valid driver’s licence (Code 10 or 14)
- Ability to work overtime and attend breakdowns
- Good problem-solving skills
- Ability to work without supervision
