Vacancy Details
Employer: Lesedi
PURPOSE OF ROLE
The Junior Civil & Structural Engineer is a 100% technical role responsible for providing engineering inputs and support across the full project lifecycle — from tenders and proposals through to design, implementation, and handover. The successful candidate will produce professional, compliant, and quality engineering outputs that meet client requirements, applicable codes and standards, and Lesedi's internal engineering processes, all within allocated hours and budget.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Tenders and Proposals
- Support the preparation of complete and accurate tender and proposal submissions by reviewing and clarifying User Requirement Specifications (URS), contributing to concept development and feasibility checks, compiling technical specifications, developing Work Breakdown Structures (WBS), providing input to project schedules, and producing technical write-ups — all to deadline and in a technically competitive manner.
Design and Design Reviews
- Assist with basic and detailed design development across the full project lifecycle. This includes inputs during the Definition Phase (concept development, URS Freeze), the Design Phase (addressing internal and external review comments, obtaining AFD and AFC Freeze), the Implementation Phase (technical support during installation and test and commissioning), and the Handover Phase (as-built documentation, punch list resolution, lessons learnt). All designs must be technically compliant, cost-effective, procurable, and constructible.
Design Integration
- Interface with other engineering disciplines to ensure an integrated design is delivered and participate actively in Integrated Design Reviews.
Site Engineering, Commissioning and Handover
- Support the installation team by resolving technical queries, conducting site inspections, and managing design changes.
- Act as commissioning engineer when required — compiling commissioning procedures, performing commissioning activities, and recording commissioning data.
- Support project handover and close-out of all engineering deliverables.
Departmental and Company Processes
- Adhere to Lesedi's engineering procedures, guidelines, and standards, the Project Management Plan, and the project-specific Engineering Management Plan.
- Provide inputs to the Change Control Process and project schedules.
- Apply IFS for time recording, ESS for leave and claims, and demonstrate working knowledge of M-Files and applicable engineering and project software platforms (Primavera, MS Project).
- Report near-miss incidents and maintain awareness of SHEQ requirements.
Teamwork
- Promote and uphold Lesedi's values, contribute to a positive team environment, and support team morale and performance.
QUALIFICATION
- B.Sc or B.Eng in Civil Engineering
- Registered as a Candidate Professional Engineer with ECSA will be beneficial.
EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 2 years' relevant design experience, ideally within an EPC or EPCM environment
