A leading food production and processing company is looking for an experienced Refrigeration Technician with strong experience in industrial ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems to join their team in Saldanha. The role focuses on maintaining and optimising refrigeration plants within a food processing environment, ensuring minimal downtime, efficient energy usage, and consistent temperature control across cold storage and processing systems.

Responsibilities:

• Maintain and operate refrigeration plants to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime
• Conduct fault finding and repairs on refrigeration equipment and systems
• Ensure cold storage rooms and processing freezers maintain required temperatures
• Overhaul and service compressors, condensers, pumps, valves, and heat exchangers
• Monitor and maintain ice plant operations to ensure uninterrupted supply
• Ensure all systems operate in line with manufacturer specifications
• Perform installation and commissioning of refrigeration systems where required
• Adhere to safety standards and ensure safe operation of all equipment
• Work within planned maintenance schedules and multidisciplinary teams

Requirements:

• Grade 12
• Trade Test (Industrial Refrigeration or related trade) – copies of qualifications required for application
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in ammonia refrigeration plants
• Minimum 5 years’ experience with Freon refrigeration systems (including air conditioning)
• Certification to work on ammonia refrigeration systems
• Strong knowledge of food processing refrigeration equipment and cold storage systems
• Solid electrical troubleshooting and control systems knowledge
• Experience with installation, servicing, and maintenance of refrigeration systems
• Ability to work across different refrigeration plant types
• Strong understanding of planned maintenance systems
