Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the position of a Kitchen Supervisor, to be based at our Kagiso Campus in Randfontein, Gauteng. The successful candidate will report to the Support Services Manager (SSM).
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To ensure the preparation and delivery of nutritious, safe, and well-balanced meals for the Youth. Maintaining high standards of hygiene and food safety, and supporting efficient day to day operations.
Key Responsibilities
Stock Control
· Organises inventory, storage, and distribution of foodstuff and supplies.
· Purchasing of all stock including groceries, crockery, cutlery, etc.
· Monitoring stock by means of monthly stock control checks
· Control portion costs and track the costs per child per meal
· Submit receipts and invoices to the administrator timeously for submission to Head Office
· Keeping records and files on all stock control processes
Kitchen Supervision
· Monitor and evaluate staff progress in relation to established individual development plans
• Deal with any misconduct or issues
• Keep track of hours worked and scheduled
• To be aware of and responsible for health and safety issues in your area and to abide by the appropriate rules and regulations
• Ensure that food sanitation standards are met – kitchen and refrigerator areas are kept clean, food disposed of properly and all employees trained on how to maintain sanitary conditions
• Ensure safe storage of cleaning and hazardous materials
• Ensuring kitchen hygiene and dealing with environmental health inspections
• keeping records and files on all consultation and health and safety processes
Administration
· Plan menus, taking into account special dietary/cultural needs, apportion ingredients accordingly Ensure that Youth receive 3 balanced meals per day
· Display menu’s daily
· Keeping computer records on staff, suppliers, food orders
· Maintain a record and file of all menu’s and number of youth fed daily
Candidate Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Qualifications
· Matric (Grade 12) qualification
· Food Hygiene and Chef/Cook qualification or equivalent
· A qualification/certificate in Health & Safety
· Driver’s license (Own transport is advantageous)
Experience
· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in working with food preparation
Skills and Competencies
| · Maintains health, safety and food hygiene standards that meet the requirements for registration with DSD and to secure food handling certificate. · Ability to manage, prepare and present food against a well-balanced, cost effective, healthy, nutritious and delicious menu. · Is able to supervise staff and implement the Girls and Boys Town consultation model · Responsible for training of kitchen staff (YDC and Family Home, including Family Teachers) and teaching youth the following skills in the kitchen – meal prep and cooking within a budget; health and safety in a kitchen · Able to work within the context of a multi professional team. · This full time position will suit a responsible candidate who is prepared to work according to the Girls and Boys Town South Africa values. |
