Role Purpose
To play a lead analytical and execution support role in the Group’s acquisition and capital allocation strategy. The M&A Associate will independently develop valuation models, lead preparation of investment committee submissions (for replacement capex and new projects), support financial due diligence processes, and assist in transaction execution and post-deal performance tracking.
The role suits a high-potential candidate within a fast-growing corporate.
Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Modelling & Valuation
• Build and own fully integrated three-statement financial models for acquisitions and strategic investments.
• Perform advanced valuation analyses (DCF, IRR, NPV, comparable company analysis, precedent transactions).
• Develop downside, sensitivity, and scenario analyses to assess transaction risk.
• Review and challenge financial assumptions provided by target management or internal stakeholders.
• Present valuation outputs and key risks to the CFO.
2. Investment Case & Business Case Preparation
• Lead internal financial due diligence workstreams on acquisition targets.
• Analyse quality of earnings, working capital requirements, cash flow sustainability and debt positions.
• Identify financial red flags and integration risks.
• Manage financial data requests and coordinate with external advisors (legal, tax, financial DD providers).
• Summarise key findings and present risks and mitigation strategies to CFO.
• Work with operational leaders to translate strategic initiatives into financial business cases.
3. Financial Due Diligence Support
• Lead internal financial due diligence workstreams on acquisition targets.
• Analyse quality of earnings, working capital requirements, cash flow sustainability and debt positions.
• Identify financial red flags and integration risks.
• Manage financial data requests and coordinate with external advisors (legal, tax, financial DD providers).
• Summarise key findings and present risks and mitigation strategies to CFO..
4. Transaction Support
• Support transaction execution processes including data room analysis and financial information requests.
• Assist with transaction structuring analysis and funding considerations.
• Support post-deal financial integration and performance tracking.
5. Portfolio & Performance Monitoring
• Track performance of acquired or invested businesses versus acquisition assumptions.
• Compare actual performance against acquisition case assumptions.
• Conduct post-investment reviews and lessons-learned analyses.
• Support financial integration planning and synergy tracking.
Candidate Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or related field.
• Progress toward or completion of CA(SA), CFA, CIMA or equivalent qualification advantageous.
Experience Level (3–5 years’ experience):
• Experience in corporate finance, M&A advisory, private equity, or corporate development roles.
• Demonstrated experience building complex financial models and supporting transactions.
• Exposure to due diligence and transaction processes.
