Employer: Ivanhoe Mines
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- Grade 12
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science / environmental management / Natural Sciences or equivalent.
- IAIA registration will be beneficial
- Valid Driver’s Licence
- Minimum 3–5 years proven experience as an Environmental Officer.
- Demonstrated experience in:
- Environmental inspections and enforcement
- Environmental monitoring programmes
- Isometrics or similar compliance systems
- ISO 14001 implementation
- Mining or heavy industrial experience strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
- Conduct daily inspections across operational areas.
- Identify environmental non-compliances and immediately engage responsible supervisors.
- Issue corrective action recommendations and record findings on Isometrics.
- Follow up daily on outstanding actions until closure.
- Report unsafe or non-compliant environmental practices where necessary and escalate to Environmental Coordinator
- Conduct and oversee environmental monitoring.
- Ensure sampling procedures follow approved protocols.
- Verify laboratory submissions and chain-of-custody compliance.
- Immediately report exceedances or abnormal results.
- Capture inspection findings, monitoring data and incidents onto Isometrics.
- Upload monitoring results accurately and within required timeframes.
- Responding to environmental incidents
- Conduct preliminary investigations and gather evidence.
- Ensure immediate containment measures are implemented.
- Log incidents and corrective actions on Isometrics.
- Provide immediate on-the-job coaching to supervisors and contractors during daily inspections.
- Explain environmental non-compliances and associated legal/license implications.
- Conduct toolbox talks focused on recurring environmental findings.
- Promote proactive environmental ownership within operational teams.
