IVANPLATS (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary of Ivanhoe Mines, is advancing the development of its world-class palladium-rhodium-nickel-copper-gold project in the Limpopo Province near Mokopane. This unique mineral deposit will be exploited using large mechanised state-of-the-art underground mining methods, deploying the latest technology to   develop this “mine of the future”.

Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

• Grade 12
• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science / environmental management / Natural Sciences or equivalent.
• IAIA registration will be beneficial
• Valid Driver’s Licence

Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:

• Minimum 3–5 years proven experience as an Environmental Officer.
• Demonstrated experience in:
  • Environmental inspections and enforcement
  • Environmental monitoring programmes
  • Isometrics or similar compliance systems
  • ISO 14001 implementation
• Mining or heavy industrial experience strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:

• Conduct daily inspections across operational areas.
• Identify environmental non-compliances and immediately engage responsible supervisors.
• Issue corrective action recommendations and record findings on Isometrics.
• Follow up daily on outstanding actions until closure.
• Report unsafe or non-compliant environmental practices where necessary and escalate to Environmental Coordinator
• Conduct and oversee environmental monitoring.
• Ensure sampling procedures follow approved protocols.
• Verify laboratory submissions and chain-of-custody compliance.
• Immediately report exceedances or abnormal results.
• Capture inspection findings, monitoring data and incidents onto Isometrics.
• Upload monitoring results accurately and within required timeframes.
• Responding to environmental incidents
• Conduct preliminary investigations and gather evidence.
• Ensure immediate containment measures are implemented.
• Log incidents and corrective actions on Isometrics.
• Provide immediate on-the-job coaching to supervisors and contractors during daily inspections.
• Explain environmental non-compliances and associated legal/license implications.
• Conduct toolbox talks focused on recurring environmental findings.
• Promote proactive environmental ownership within operational teams.
