Employer: Ivanhoe Mines
Suitable candidates must possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:
- Honours in Geology from a recognized tertiary institution.
- Proficient in the use of Microsoft software, including Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
Suitable candidates must have the following work experience:
- Minimum 2 years of underground experience specifically in the Platinum Bushveld Complex - Northern Limb.
- Experience in Long-Hole Mining Method
- Good Understanding of the Platreef orebody and mineralization (Geochemistry).
- Proficient in the use of mine software packages (Deswik, Datamine, and Leapfrog preferred).
- High-level administrative skills.
The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not be limited to:
- Providing support to the mine operations by collecting, interpreting, and reporting on production geology issues, including logging/sampling core, wireframing, modelling, grade/tonnage estimations and reconciliations, in alignment with the organization’s long-term objectives.
- Act as liaison between Geology and Mining Engineering.
- Conduct geological and structural mapping at the development ends
- Ensure cover drilling and grade control are executed according to the standard
- Capture of geological, structural mapping, and logging data
- Plot the mapped critical geological features with high potential
- Ensure that data is collected accurately and that the data is entered into the database promptly
- Proactively participate in geology interpretation, including fault, structure, orebody, and other geological features, and ensure wireframing is completed accurately
- Assist the Senior Geologist in the management of diamond drill programs, coordination of sites, and assistance with contractor management
- Reporting and communication to the mining and the mine geology team on daily functions
- Conduct underground sampling, including face mapping, sample marking, and QAQC of sampling activity and samples
- Core logging and supervising core sampling, including sample tracking, marking, recording, and QAQC.
- Supervising the execution of underground exploration and cover drilling programs
- Supervising the execution of underground grade control drilling
