The Plant Maintenance Manager (2.13.1) is responsible for the overall management of maintenance activities within the metallurgical plant, ensuring optimal equipment availability, reliability, and safety. The role carries a legal appointment in terms of Section 2.13.1 of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA), with accountability for ensuring that all mechanical and electrical equipment is maintained and operated in a safe and compliant manner.

Legal Compliance (2.13.1 Appointment)

• Fulfil duties as a legally appointed 2.13.1 responsible person under the MHSA.
• Ensure all plant equipment complies with statutory regulations and safety standards.
• Oversee legal inspections, risk assessments, and audits.
• Maintain accurate legal documentation and reporting.
• Take responsibility for equipment-related safety incidents and investigations.

Maintenance Management

• Manage the execution of planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance.
• Ensure high levels of plant availability and reliability.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies and schedules.
• Oversee plant shutdowns, repairs, and upgrades.

Asset & Engineering Management

• Ensure optimal performance of mechanical and electrical plant equipment.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve asset utilisation.
• Implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment efficiency.

Health, Safety & Risk Management

• Drive a zero-harm safety culture within the maintenance environment.
• Ensure compliance with MHSA, company policies, and safety procedures.
• Conduct hazard identification and risk mitigation activities.

Leadership & People Management

• Lead and manage a team of artisans, foremen, supervisors, and planners.
• Ensure adequate training, competency, and development of staff.
• Manage performance, discipline, and workforce planning.

Financial & Cost Control

• Develop and manage the maintenance budget.
• Control costs related to spares, labour, and contractors.
• Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements.

Reporting & Stakeholder Engagement

• Provide regular maintenance performance reports to management.
• Liaise with production, metallurgy, and engineering departments.
• Coordinate with external contractors and suppliers.
