To act as a senior, client-facing technical delivery specialist responsible for the design, development, integration, and implementation of technical solutions within the Planon platform. The role exists to close a critical technical delivery capability gap within the company, enabling the successful execution of complex client projects through API and FTP integrations, platform customisations, on-premise environment installations, and security-enabled solutions such as single sign-on.
The Senior Technical Consultant is expected to operate with a high degree of independence, contribute directly to billable client work, collaborate closely with functional consultants, and support the scalable growth of the company's technical delivery capability, with a clear progression path into future technical leadership roles.
Design, build, and maintain robust REST API and file-based integrations as part of end-to-end Planon implementations, ensuring secure, scalable, and reliable data exchange aligned to customer requirements.
Install and configure Planon environments (cloud-based and on-premise), including advising on system architecture, adapting solutions to customer security policies, and enabling authentication mechanisms such as single sign-on using technologies including Keycloak and Active Directory.
Develop and maintain platform-based customisations and applications using Java and related technologies, ensuring solutions are maintainable, sustainable, and aligned with best practice technical standards.
Produce clear, well-structured technical specification and design documentation that supports long-term solution sustainability, knowledge transfer, and future enhancements.
- Collaborate closely with functional consultants on solution design, scoping, and delivery activities requiring both functional and technical input.
- Provide regular progress updates, risk identification, and escalation to the project manager, including accurate time tracking and reporting.
- Manage assigned delivery tasks to meet agreed project milestones and delivery timelines.
- Support both new and existing customers from a technical perspective, including integrations, upgrades, enhancements, and authentication-related requirements.
- Operate as a billable, client-facing consultant with an expected utilisation target of approximately 50% during the first six months, increasing to approximately 80% thereafter.
Candidate Requirements
3-8 years of relevant technical consulting or delivery experience. Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered where demonstrable capability and relevant experience can be clearly justified.
Experience in a consulting or professional services environment is strongly preferred, particularly in client-facing delivery roles involving complex enterprise systems.
Experience delivering solutions within enterprise or platform-based environments, including exposure to global or multi-region clients.
Degree – NQF level 8 or higher.
BCom (Informatics), BSc (Information Science), BEng (Computer Engineering), or equivalent qualifications. Other relevant degrees or equivalent experience may be considered where appropriate.
