Bosman Adama, based in Wellington, is seeking a Tissue Culture (TC) Lab Manager to lead their expanding tissue culture facility and oversee the integrated on-site quarantine unit. The successful candidate will play a key role in this new development project by helping establish systems, scale production, and build a skilled team through training and mentorship.

The successful incumbent is a detail oriented plant science professional with strong tissue culture and aseptic technique skills, excellent problem solving ability.

The successful candidate will be responsible for (but not limited to): *Laboratory Operations & Production: Plan and manage daily tissue culture production workflows; Oversee aseptic processes including media preparation, multiplication, rooting, and acclimatisation; Maintain sterile conditions, manage consumables, and resolve technical or contamination issues *Quality Management: Implement and maintain SOPs and quality protocols; Ensure genetic fidelity, phytosanitary compliance, and accurate production records; Drive continuous improvement to enhance quality and efficiency *People Management: Lead, train, and support a team of lab technicians; Manage scheduling, performance, and skills development; Foster a positive, accountable team culture *Compliance, Safety & Reporting: Ensure compliance with biosafety, plant health, and safety regulations; Maintain audit readiness and prepare operational and production reports; Monitor budgets and optimise resource use *Research, Development & Innovation: Support protocol and methodology development; Collaborate with nursery teams and external partners; Stay informed on advances in tissue culture and micropropagation *All other tasks related to this role.

Essential qualifications, skills and experience:
• Honors or Master’s degree in Plant Biotechnology, Microbiology, Plant Physiology, Horticulture, or a related field;
• Experience with grapevines, blueberries, strawberries, or cherries will be advantageous;
• 5-7 years’ of hands-on tissue culture experience (commercial scale advantageous);
• At least 3 years in a supervisory or management role;
• Proven ability to lead teams and manage production environments.
