Purpose of the job

The Manager: Financial Reporting supports the Lead: Financial Reporting in implementing financial reporting initiatives which include promoting high-quality financial reporting practices, providing thought leadership, and supporting the adoption and implementation of global financial reporting standards.

This role also supports the Lead: Financial Reporting in fostering relationships with key stakeholders, providing technical support to members and contributing to the financial reporting standard-setting process. Reporting to the Lead: Financial Reporting, the Manager: Financial Reporting also contributes to advancing the accountancy profession’s role in delivering transparency, accountability, and trust through financial reporting excellence.

Key/main outputs

Output 1: Leadership in Financial Reporting and Standards

  • Support the Lead – Financial Reporting in operationalising strategies as developed by Head: Financial Reporting to drive the adoption and effective implementation of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), International Financial Reporting Standards for Small and Medium-sized Entities (IFRS for SMEs), and other global financial reporting frameworks
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in tracking global developments in financial reporting, ensuring that SAICA remains at the forefront of standard-setting
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in identifying opportunities for collaboration with international standard-setting bodies, regulators, and stakeholders to influence the development and application of financial reporting standards
  • Leverage data analytics, digital tools, and AI technologies to enhance financial reporting processes and decision-making
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in the implementation of AI-driven tools to enhance communication with stakeholders. These tools can help in drafting personalised messages, scheduling meetings, and even predicting stakeholder responses based on historical data
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in the implementation of specific financial reporting tools and guidance.

Output 2: Technical Support and Guidance

  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in the development of guidance and thought leadership on financial reporting issues to SAICA members, committees, and stakeholders
  • Draft technical resources, position papers, and training materials to assist members in complying with financial reporting standards
  • Respond to member queries on financial reporting matters
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in the development of AI-powered advisory services that provide real-time guidance to members on standards application. This can include chatbots or virtual assistants that can answer queries and provide relevant resources
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in identifying opportunities for developing new technical resources
  • Draft the revisions to existing technical resources to ensure that resources remain relevant and up to date
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in conducting research that informs the technical content incorporated in technical resources

Output 3: Advocacy and Capacity Building

  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in advocating for the relevance and importance of high-quality financial reporting in promoting economic growth and transparency
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in building capacity among members and stakeholders by delivering workshops, webinars, and training programs on financial reporting topics
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in implementing the financial reporting stakeholder engagement plan
  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in building and maintaining healthy relationships with local and international stakeholders as delegated by the Lead: Financial Reporting
  • Draft technical submissions on proposed pronouncements

Output 4: Governance and Compliance

  • Support the Lead: Financial Reporting in identify risks associated with the adoption and application of financial reporting standards
  • Provide regular updates to the Lead: Financial Reporting on progress, risks, and opportunities in financial reporting

Output 5: Embrace organisational transformation

  • Actively contribute to cost containment efforts by identifying opportunities for operational efficiencies, optimising resources, and ensuring value-driven decision-making in daily activities.
  • Support SAICA’s transformation into an insights-driven organisation by leveraging data and analytics to enhance decision-making, improve processes, and drive continuous improvement in your area of work
  • Effectively utilise digital tools and technology to enhance productivity, streamline workflows, and improve service delivery. Stay informed about new and emerging technologies relevant to your role
  • Adopt and embrace AI-driven tools and automation to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness in job-related tasks, while continuously seeking opportunities to improve processes through innovative technology solutions
  • Identify and support SAICA’s management of risks related to sustainability, including environmental risks, regulatory changes and social risks and integrating them into business continuity and risk management plans

Candidate Requirements

Formal Education

  • CA(SA)
  • AGA(SA)

Technical/Legal Certification

  • Experience in an advisory or technical environment

Experience

  • Knowledge and understanding of: IFRS and IFRS for SMEs
  • At least (3) years experience in a technical environment with IFRS exposure
  • Drafting technical opinions (advantageous)

Knowledge and Skills

  • Financial Reporting: In-depth understanding of global financial reporting standards, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Governance: Knowledge of regulatory and governance requirements impacting financial reporting
  • Business Acumen: An understanding of the principles of business, the application thereof, the opportunities within business and the seizure of such opportunities.
  • Performance and Talent management: An understanding of performance and talent management policies and procedures.
  • HR policy and procedures: Understanding of HR policies and procedures to support people management processes.
  • Information Technology: Understanding of ICT prescribed practices and legislative requirements for data security and information management. Leverage relevant data for insights and decision making.
  • Governance and Compliance: An understanding of governance and compliance related matters.
