Role Overview:
The Environmental Officer is responsible for implementing the Group Environmental Minimum Standards, supporting conservation operations and ensuring compliance with environmental legislation. This role includes environmental monitoring, anti‑poaching coordination, sustainable tourism implementation and environmental education across the Wilderness Zambezi Region.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated conservation professional who thrives in wild, remote environments and is motivated to make a measurable impact.


 Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all camps comply with environmental legislation, protected-area regulations, and eco‑tourism standards.
  • Conduct regular monitoring of wildlife, vegetation, water quality, and waste outputs.
  • Lead conservation initiatives, including habitat restoration, wildlife monitoring and community‑based projects.
  • Coordinate the SCORPIONS Anti‑Poaching Unit, including operations, reporting and people management.
  • Support sustainable tourism practices such as waste reduction, energy efficiency and water conservation.
  • Facilitate guest presentations and involve guests in conservation activities where appropriate.
  • Train staff, guides and guests on environmental stewardship and responsible tourism.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual environmental and conservation reports.
  • Support Wilderness Trust projects and participate in stakeholder meetings.
  • Conduct back‑of‑house environmental audits and assist with improving camp performance.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resources Management, Conservation Biology, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in eco‑tourism, conservation, protected area management or environmental management.
  • Experience with biodiversity monitoring, environmental audits or field research.
  • Strong understanding of ecological processes and conservation principles.

  • Leadership abilities and experience working with diverse teams.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong analytical, data collection and report‑writing skills.
  • Problem‑solving, risk‑assessment and environmental compliance capability.
  • Passion for community engagement and environmental education.
