LiquidCapital is seeking to employ a qualified and experienced Project Accountant. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and highly skilled Finance Team.      

The successful candidate will report directly to the Finance Manager.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Project Accountant is responsible for providing financial oversight, control, and reporting for specific projects within the Business.  This role ensures that projects are financially viable, compliant with regulatory and Company requirements, and delivered within approved budgets and timelines.

The position plays a critical role in budgeting, cost control, financial analysis, and reporting, supporting informed decision-making and ensuring financial integrity throughout the project lifecycle.

DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:

Financial Planning & Budgeting:

  • Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets and forecasts
  • Track project costs, revenue, and profitability against approved budgets
  • Identify variances and provide explanations and corrective recommendations

Financial Control & Reporting:

  • Prepare accurate and timely project financial reports for management
  • Ensure correct allocation of costs to projects in line with accounting standards
  • Maintain project accounting records and supporting documentation
  • Perform month-end and year-end project accounting activities

Compliance & Governance:

  • Ensure adherence to internal financial policies, procedures, and controls
  • Ensure compliance with applicable financial services regulations and industry standards
  • Support internal and external audits relating to project finances

Stakeholder Support:

  • Partner with project managers and business stakeholders to provide financial insight
  • Provide financial guidance on project risks, cost optimisation, and funding requirements
  • Assist in business cases, feasibility studies, and return-on-investment analysis

Systems & Process Improvement:

  • Maintain and improve project accounting processes and controls
  • Ensure accurate data capture in financial and project management systems
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within the finance function, i.e., enhance efficiencies 

EDUCATION / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS / EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (essential)
  • Professional qualification such as CA(SA), CIMA, ACCA, or SAIPA (advantageous or in progress)
  • Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role
  • Proven experience in project accounting, cost control, or management accounting
  • Experience within the Financial Services and/or Motor industry will be a strong advantage
  • Exposure to regulated environments and/or compliance-driven industries
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting standards
  • Sound budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis skills
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial systems
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail abilities
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage non-financial stakeholders
