Purpose:
To lead and optimise packaging operations by ensuring that teams are equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills, and commitment to fully utilise the facility. The role is accountable for managing materials, manpower, and production processes to deliver quality products at optimal cost, in line with customer requirements, legislative standards, and food safety regulations.
Minimum Requirements:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Minimum 5 years' experience in a Packaging environment within FMCG
- 3 years' proven people management experience
- Relevant tertiary qualification (advantageous)
- Strong computer literacy (advantageous)
- Sound technical knowledge (quality management systems & machine expertise)

Job Summary:
- Accountable for all Packaging activities and line performance
- Analyse production data to improve line efficiency and reduce waste
- Ensure production runs according to plan and resources are optimally allocated
- Reduce downtime, improve changeover times, and increase line speed
- Ensure production within BOM variance and control bottling losses
- Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and legislative standards
- Monitor on-line process control and manage QC incidents
- Ensure no overdue non-conformances, audit findings, or customer complaints
- Maintain hygiene, housekeeping (5S), and packaging standards
- Ensure all procedures are reviewed, updated, and communicated
- Uphold all Health & Safety regulations
- Lead H&S meetings and ensure incident reporting compliance
- Drive continuous improvement in safety and environmental practices
- Manage the cost centre for packaging lines
- Control labour (permanent & temporary), overtime, and production materials
- Monitor blend losses, cleaning materials, and operational costs
- Lead, coach, and develop team members through training and guidance
- Ensure accurate daily resource planning (permanent & temporary staff)
- Manage timekeeping, leave, overtime, and Kronos
- Empower employees while holding them accountable for performance
- Conduct regular team and one-on-one meetings
- Align team objectives with departmental and operational strategy
- Manage discipline, counselling, and performance development
- Lead MDWT meetings and communicate production plans
- Provide regular performance feedback to the Packaging Manager
- Liaise with Quality and other departments to ensure resource availability
- Compile and communicate daily and weekly performance reports
- Participate in OOS, project, and multi-disciplinary problem-solving meetings
