Requisition Details & Talent Acquisition Specialist REQ 142345 - Keabetswe Modise Closing Date: 09 March 2025 Job Family Information Technology Career Stream IT Technical/Specialists Leadership Pipeline Manage Self: Expert Job Purpose A Senior MQ (Message Queue) Administrator plays a critical role in managing, maintaining, and optimising enterprise messaging platforms such as IBM MQ or similar middleware solutions. These professionals ensure reliable, secure, and scalable message-based communication between distributed applications and services, which is essential for modern business operations. Job Responsibilities
* System Architecture and Design:Lead the design and implementation of MQ infrastructure, ensuring it meets business requirements for performance, scalability, and security.
* Installation and Configuration:
* Oversee the installation, configuration, and upgrading of MQ servers, clusters, and clients across various environments (development, test, production).
* Monitoring and Performance Tuning:Monitor MQ systems to ensure optimal performance, availability, and reliability. Perform regular health checks, analyse logs, and tune configurations for efficient message delivery.
* Security Management:Implement robust security policies, manage access controls, and ensure compliance with organisational and regulatory standards.
* Troubleshooting and Incident Response:Diagnose and resolve complex issues related to message delivery, queue management, and system outages. Provide expert support during critical incidents.
* Disaster Recovery and Backup:Develop and maintain disaster recovery strategies, backup procedures, and failover mechanisms to guarantee business continuity.
* Documentation and Knowledge Sharing:Create and maintain technical documentation for MQ environments. Mentor junior administrators and provide training to support teams.
* Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement:Work closely with application developers, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to ensure messaging solutions align with organisational needs.
* Change and Release Management:Manage the deployment of changes to MQ configurations, ensuring minimal disruption and adherence to change control processess. Key Responsibilities
* MQ Infrastructure Management: Maintain and support MQ servers, queues, channels, and related components. Monitor system health and proactively address potential issues.
* Capacity Planning: Analyse usage trends and plan for future growth, recommending upgrades or architectural changes as needed.
* Automation and Scripting: Develop scripts and automation tools to streamline routine tasks, such as monitoring, reporting, and configuration management.
* Compliance and Audit Support: Ensure MQ environments comply with internal policies and external regulations. Support audit activities by providing evidence and documentation.
* Vendor Liaison: Engage with MQ solution vendors for support, product updates, and knowledge transfer. Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
* Advanced Diplomas/National 1st Degrees Required Skills and Competencies
* In-depth knowledge of MQ technologies (e.g., IBM MQ, RabbitMQ, Apache ActiveMQ)
* Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
* Experience with Linux/UNIX and Windows server environments
* Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Bash, PowerShell, Python)
* Understanding of enterprise security practices
* Excellent communication and documentation skills
* Ability to work under pressure and manage complex incidents
